John 6:40King James Version (KJV)
And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

We Gather Together

1 We gather together to ask the Lord's blessing;
he chastens and hastens his will to make known;
the wicked oppressing now cease from distressing.
Sing praises to his name; he forgets not his own.

2 Beside us to guide us, our God with us joining,
ordaining, maintaining his kingdom divine;
so from the beginning the fight we were winning;
thou, Lord, wast at our side; all glory be thine!

3 We all do extol thee, thou leader triumphant,
and pray that thou still our defender wilt be.
Let thy congregation escape tribulation;
thy name be ever praised! O Lord, make us free!

One of the earliest hymns in my memory of youth in Dads' old congregation north of Houston, in Tomball, Texas. The old hymns hold up well in the test of time.

Thank you, AuntiE. :thumbup:

I wholeheartedly agree as to the endurance of the older hymns.

I truly enjoyed the entire hymn, made my attemp to sing even, but the verse that I liked best was -
thy name be ever praised! O Lord, make us free!

A powerful scripture with a promise. Gods promises are so wonderful because the Book of Hebrews tells us that God cannot lie. The gathering together of friends, family, and Gods people always bring memories some happy and joy filled. Some best forgotten, some forever grieved. I remember as far back as I can remember singing that song every Thanksgiving season. To bad we don't sing it much anymore.

Fine choices Thanks AuntiE.
