I have a question that as an American citizen, former 4 year vet soldier, and now disabled sheriff.....
what does "we, the people " stand for any more ?

This is my question and anyone with the specific knowledge please feel free to jump in with the t***hful answer.....

We, the people, to me means We, as American citizens are the govt...!!!
We elect persons to a term, to carry out our countries business, so that as citizens we may do our jobs to support our families.

Now, has anyone tried to contact their congress person and get a t***hful answer recently ? Or, is it a mimeographed return letter digitally signed?

It seems that We, the people, are NO longer in charge...

We pay a congressperson a salary of $174,000. for only
78 days out of the entire year, with their own v**ed in health care plan, salary increase they v**e for , without our input, a retirement plan that anyone who is breathing would envy to the 'nth' degree, and they get this pay for ONLY serving one term....with full pay at retirement along with the health plan paid for by us, and the salary and health plan is for life..... !!!

Now with the stroke of a pen Obama can shred the constitution at his own pleasure, and no one says a darn word ???
Last I heard it takes 38 state legislatures to ok changes to the constitution.

So, I would like to know why the following items are not put on the (November National B****t) for We, the people, to v**e on, ...as We are the govt ? correct ? yes ...

("i******s -"amnesty")...yes or (no)

("i******s") ...go home ...(yes) or no

(Stop all "freebies" immediately, let them (self-deport)
They receive a "monthly" salary from our pockets of $3,805. plus ...free food stamps, free school breakfasts
and lunches, free medical, free housing,....sign me up...!!!
That all together is better than my sheriff's pension of $4400. and I had to get shot for it,... by the way...

("gun control") ...yes or (no)

("term-limits") for all congresspersons ... (yes) or no

( no one older than 80, or no longer than 20 years,
congress or supreme courts )) yes

I await your answers, thank you...jer

I'll tell you WHY because our congress and senate sold their sole to the devil. Greed and power. That is who runs this country of ours. That is why they want gun control to control we the people.

BIGEAGLE,
When I try to discuss politics with anyone in my social circles, or to a stranger on the street, nearly all of them say "I cannot do anything about it" or, worse, "I do not care". Your question has been answered many time by others and I will add my answer to theirs: APATHY. Apathy is the problem. "Let the government handle it, that is what they are paid for." They b***h and piss and moan about how things are going but always make some excuse for not writing their congresspersons, or even a letter to the President.

I am all for term limits on Congresspersons and Supreme Court Justices, and the President. I am actually for term limits on all elected positions, AND appointed positions end at the end of the term of the appointer (I know this is not a word, but I am not going to fix it, it makes my point) who appointed the appointee. That should stop many long term bureaucrats, as well.

I want a way to impeach any appointed judge, by the people, who uses international law as a precedent to decide a case, better yet, automatic dismissal from the bench. To me it is tantamount to treason to decide laws outside this country, not v**ed upon by OUR legislature and signed into law by OUR President, take precedence over the laws of this country and OUR Constitution. I also want Justices that will repeal or not repeal a law based on OUR Constitution, not legislate from the bench.

The Legislative Branch is supposed to write the laws and v**e the laws up or down. If they v**e yes, then the Executive Branch signs the bill into law or vetoes the law. If it is signed into law, the only job of the Supreme Court is to verify the Constitutionality of the law, if and only if, a suit is filed against the law.

For too long now we have been required to deal with the Supreme Court legislating from the bench. This must stop.

When it comes to regulatory agencies, we have allowed them to bypass the Legislative process and create regulations that have the force of law WITHOUT having gone through the legislative process. This too must stop.

Out of all the issues you listed, I will quibble with one.

You DO NOT put our 2nd Amendment rights up for a public v**e unless it is as to amend the Constitution which requires 38 states to approve. You may want to take that chance on that issue, but I sure as hades do not!

Big Eagle you are right but how do we change it, congress we never go for term limits they skirt the Constitution in everything they do. I send letters to our congressmen and senators. All they give me is lip service. I v**e for different people but they don't get in. Everything that is going on is because they want it that way.

I email, make phone calls & send return receipt return registered letters and all I ever get back is the chain response digitally signed with the exception of my congressman in my district who has even on occasion given me a phone call response.

If I may be so bold as to offer the same views but with a different slant. Our nation was founded as a representative democracy. In order for it to work, an informed e*****rate is required. Initially, to be involved in the political process one needed to demonstrate some level of understanding. Today, we have people v****g who literally have zero handle of facts. We have people who see themselves as v****g for a living - and they are approaching a majority. People v****g for a living go beyond just those who recieve t***sfer payments from the government. It includes those who work for the government, and those who work for government favors. People like the arrogant IRS folks we're seeing in the news, but also people like lawyers and lobbyists - and large corporations that benefit by crony capitalism.
Those of us who purely work for a living must v**e monolithically against those who represent the professional v**ers - otherwise we are doomed.

Term limits reduce the power of v**ers. If the v**ers like a legislator, they are prohibited from electing him until he dies. And that opens up all kinds of corruptions of statesmen on their last term.

Dave,
We are a Constitutional Representative Republic whose representatives are elected democratically. We are not a representative democracy.

Your points would be better presented if you would not shout at us. Posting a comment all in Caps is shouting. As a personal note, my vision is slightly impaired and difficulty ensues when the whole post is in Caps. After having to reread your post twice, commentary follows.

Your point concerning State Legislatures is extremely valid. In fact, you need to start with city, county and other municipal officials. Every registered v**er (and why do so many imbeciles fail to r******r to v**e?) needs to study and learn what is happening at all levels of their government. Many of your State representatives started at the local level in some form or fashion. Reviewing their past positions is a mirror to future positions. One group of officials many v**ers fail to follow are school board member. This is a group who tend to use the position as a political spring board to higher offices.

Before you can impose state term limits, you must review your State or Commonwealth (you are aware there are four Commonwealths?) Constitution.
Quite a while ago my home Commonwealth (and heaven do I wish I was still there!) amended their Constitution providing the Governor, Lt. Governor and Attorney General could only serve one six year term.

James Madison, who is often considered "The Father of the Constitution", wrote in his Federalist Paper #53 opposition to term limits. Further, the other framers opposed term limits. When those papers were written, the average lifespan of a human was 35 - 40 years old. It did not take into consideration the possibility of life being extended well beyond that average age.

Thank you, AuntiE.

Those both express my personal opinions, well. My personal conviction, however, sides with the dissenting opinion. Though I am thankful that it was ruled the way it was, because of my state's rejection of my personal convictions.
