One Nation Under . . . ?
by Ken Ham on September 14, 2010; last featured November 21, 2014

At one time in the past, the people of the United States generally knew who ruled over the affairs of men—the Creator God of the Bible. They even put His name on their coins and currency. In just one generation that attitude has changed. What happened?
State of the Nation DVDs

This double-DVD pack contains both of Ken Ham’s recent talks on the State of the Nation, “The Collapse of Christian America” and “Reminders Removed.”

The entire western world is changing. Whereas the West was once permeated by Christian thinking, with a predominantly Christian worldview in regard to morality, there has been a dramatic shift.

A******n was once by and large considered to be k*****g a human being and so was basically outlawed. Marriage was once considered to be between one man and one woman. But now gay marriage is increasingly accepted and legalized.

Why has this change occurred? What are the foundational reasons for such a dramatic shift in worldviews?

These same changes (and many more, such as the removal of Christian symbols from public places) are occurring and gathering momentum in what was once considered the greatest Christianized nation on earth—the United States of America.

The changes in America are fundamentally the same as in the rest of the Western world. So in understanding what is happening in America, one can understand why this dramatic shift is occurring in so many countries.
Change is Happening

In 2006 at Call to Renewal’s “Building a Covenant for a New America” conference, then-Senator Barack Obama stated: “Wh**ever we once were, we are no longer a Christian nation; we are also a Jewish nation, a Muslim nation, a Buddhist nation, a Hindu nation, and a nation of nonbelievers.”1

He repeated this same message in his book The Audacity of Hope2 and later in his inauguration address.3 During a trip to Turkey in early 2009, President Obama reiterated a similar message to Turkey’s Muslim president:

“I’ve said before that one of the great strengths of the United States is, although as I mentioned we have a very large Christian population, we do not consider ourselves a Christian nation or a Jewish nation or a Muslim nation; we consider ourselves a nation of citizens who are bound by ideals and a set of values.”4

There is no doubt that President Obama is declaring that America has fundamentally changed. But what is the change he is referring to?

The essence of the change can be summed up with another quote from him. President Obama formally declared:

Now, therefore, I, Barack Obama, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim June 2010 as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and T*********r P***e Month. I call upon all Americans to observe this month by fighting prejudice and discrimination in their own lives and everywhere it exists. . . . Barack Obama.5

At a Human Rights Campaign dinner in 2009, the president stated:

My expectation is that when you look back on these years . . . , you will see a time in which we as a nation finally recognize relationships between two men and two women as just as real and admirable as relationships between a man and a woman.6

The change from a worldview that viewed marriage as a special union between a man and a woman, to one that redefines marriage as a relationship between any two individuals (man and man, or woman and woman) really sums up the change the current leader of the U.S. is referring to. It is really a change from building one’s thinking on the Bible beginning in Genesis (where we learn about the origin of marriage when God made the first male and female) to a worldview in which mankind can determine new definitions of marriage.
What Led to This Change?

Change in America reflects a shift from Christianity’s absolutes to the relative morality of human opinions.

In essence this change reflects a shift between the world’s two opposing religions. Ultimately there are only two religions—one starts with God’s Word and the other starts with man’s word. America—and the whole Western world—once built its worldview predominantly on the Bible. Now a shift has occurred, as the West’s worldview is being built on man’s word. This change is reflected in a shift from Christianity’s absolutes to the relative morality of human opinions.

A secular humanist magazine recently ran a cover story on “Fading Faith.” The article stated:

A historic t***sition is occurring, barely noticed. Slowly, quietly, imperceptibly, religion is shriveling in America, as it already has in Europe, Canada, Australia, Japan—across the developed world. Increasingly, supernatural faith belongs to the third world. The first world is entering the long-predicted Secular Age, when science and knowledge dominate.7

The president of the United States, the secular humanists, and Christians all recognize the change. However, is this change positive, as the secularists trumpet and as the U.S. president proclaims?

Sadly, this foundational change is affecting hearts and minds in regard to eternal matters. Fundamentally the secularists have captured the hearts and minds of generations of kids (for example, two-thirds of young people from church homes will leave the church by the time they reach college age8). They have secularized their thinking by changing their starting point from God’s Word to man’s word—thus changing their worldview. After generations of such change, we now see the effect on the changing worldview of the whole culture.

The major way this change has occurred is through the education system and media, which teach that evolution over millions of years is fact, causing many young people to doubt and ultimately disbelieve the Scriptures. Sadly, much of the church aided this change by endorsing millions of years and evolutionary ideas, while trying to instill a Christian worldview in other areas (such as Christian morality, marriage as one man and one woman, and a******n as murder).

Wh**ever we once were we are no longer! These words really mean that America as a nation no longer builds its thinking on God’s Word, but man can determine t***h for himself. America has changed religion—from Christianity to a man-centered religion. This spiritual disaster is now reflected in this nation’s economic and moral disaster.
So What is the Solution?

Wh**ever we once were we need to return to. The only solution for this nation (and every other nation) is to return to the authority of God’s Word as the foundation for our individual and cultural worldviews.

As Psalm 11:3 states, “If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?”

I've been preaching this message for years. Almost every problem this country faces is because we have turned away from God, and we will be punished for it.

It's so comforting to know others believe this! I have been trying to make this point. Christians must stand together to protect our nation, under God.

Foremost, America is not a Christian. That may be tough to swallow. Earthly laws of e******y have priority and precedent in America, not in the Bible. America has never built its thinking on God's word: study it's history.

Have you read any of Jonathan Kahn's books or seen his video's on the Isaiah 9:10 judgment and the coming Shemita?

Kahn gives one something to think about as he ties in Bible prophesy with current events. Time will show if he is right. I believe the next two years are really going to see major events unfold in the USA and none of them good. If the Supreme Court endorses same sex marriage it may well be the tipping point.

There is one thing for certain, not only the face but the heart of America is changing. The Left would have people believe that the Right is a bunch of old fogy angry men who do not embrace change.

There is always room for change that is good. But change that is destructive and illegal is wrong I don't care who brings it about.

There are some factors that are set in stone not because we have always done it that way, but because of common sense.

Same sex marriage was, is, and will always be a perversion that leads to disaster on many fronts. Just because a small percentage of the population believes it is right doesn't make it right.
Just because something is legal doesn't make it right.

America has lost its sense of value of human life. We have become a country who uses a******n for birth control to the point of 56 million plus babies have been murdered; yet we will do everything in our power to spend millions to save a snail darter.

We make a big issue of welfare instead of workfare. I am for helping any and every person who cannot help themselves. We are bound morally and spiritually to help the least of these. But there is a very clear spiritual teaching that says those who won't work shouldn't eat. This is not mean, it is logical and justified.
To develop not only one generation but to keep on generation after generation developing people who are totally dependent on the government or anyone for that matter is a crime to humanity.

I know I am ranting on and on, but anyone in their right mind must out of true honesty admit we are on a very dangerous road in our nation. In Luke 21, Jesus said that there will come a time when there is distress among nations with perplexity.

If you explore what these words mean in the original language. it means that Jesus uis saying there will be a time when there is so much confusion and chaos in the world among nations that there will be no answers, no way to figure a way out of the problems that have been created. How are we ever going to pay off a 17 trillion plus national debt.. How are we going to produce an big enough population to reproduce ourselves if we keep k*****g babies at the rate we presently k**l them. How are we going to reproduce ourselves if same sex marriage becomes the norm?

How are we going to defend ourselves if we keep reducing our armed forces and at the same time giving money to countries that h**e us and even vow our destruction?

How are going to develop the work ethic in young people or anyone for that matter if there are no jobs that pay equal or more than welfare? Where is the incentive, where is the motivation?

The Left accuse the Right of being the 1 per-center's, there are just as many rich on the Left as there are on the Right.

The time has come to stop this slide into disaster. We are quickly reaching the point of no return, no way out. We truly are a country that is filled with distress with perplexity.

I agree with all you say. I may be accused of being a doom and gloom person by some but unless a real change comes to the heart of America I know judgment is coming. God is already sending warning signs.
