Texas has 7.6 murders per 100,000 people while California has "only" 6.1. Your article also neglected to mention that the five states with the lowest murder rates have the most lenient gun laws in the US.

This lackwit article (the only kind you read) completely ignores the fact that almost all homicides are committed in a handful of cities. Louisiana's outrageous murder rate is because of New Orleans and Baton Rouge. The rest of the state has very few murders.

Subtract Birmingham and Montgomery and Alabama's murder rate is similar to England.
