Conservatives prefer to have wild mood swings (about their latest boogyman) rather than take a calm measured view of politics based on history.

You are much too cool and rational for these folks.

They don't do cool and rational. You can see it, with their childish tantrums over President Obama's doing what he was elected to do ---lead.

The president's ability to calmly "stay in the pocket" before he fires another touchdown, drives them nuts.

Under a very strong GOP rushing attack, he fired off 3 touchdowns this past week.

Because we learned they will stream over the border. Until the border is secure we cannot even discuss it.

So, lets say they c*********d on less people..maybe 5 million ? Would that be okay with you ? What number would be okay ?

Brian

I am taking a view of history. Amnesty in the 80s was a mistake and led to a mass influx of more I******s. You need to start debating facts and stop posting stupid s**t

Oh the old Reagan defense. Amnesty for 3 Million in a nation of 250 Million as compared to amnesty for 11-20 Million in a nation of 309 Million. I******s have quadrupled at very least. US Population has not. Amnesty in the 80s was a bad idea and led to a massive influx of i******s. Lets not make the same mistake again.

And the dems stuck it to Reagan by not reinforcing the border, liars then liars now!!! Secure the border first then we may talk!!

I find it amazing that they use the 80s amnesty as some sort of argument for their position. That's like using the Pinto as an argument for American cars.

I think it's fair to ask why was it okay when Reagan and George Bush Sr did it but not today with this president...why is Congress opposed to amnesty ? I know you said you felt it was a mistake...is that true for both Presidents that passed amnesty laws ? It seems that if there was a republican in the White House, they might be more supportive of the idea..the same as they were with Reagan and Bush

You have not been listening. Reagan and Bush did not do it by imperial decree. They did it with Congress. They did not bypass Congress. Do you think that a president has the right to nullify Congress everytime he disagrees with them? That is called despotism. You and he might think he is a King, (Lord knows Brian desperately wants one to grovel before ), but that is not the case.

Thanks Anigav, for cutting through the xenophobic hype. I was about to post this AP story but you beat me to it.

Seems the conservatives seem to be going into heart failure, because our president is doing the job this nation elected him to do.

Some of them are even too stupid to realize that he was given, in the e******n of 2012, another 4 year mandate to lead, not two.

This article is total BULSH. It is nothing but DIM swill / Propaganda.

President Eisenhower in 1956 paroled 923 foreign-born orphans into the custody of U.S. military families looking to adopt them. Over the lengthy period of 1959-to 1972, Presidents Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson and Richard Nixon used executive powers to parole into the U.S. a majority of 621,403 Cuban asylum seekers fleeing from Castro’s Cuba. In 1976, President Gerald Ford granted extended voluntary departure to an unknown number of Lebanese who escaped Lebanon. President Jimmy Carter paroled 123,000 Cubans and Haitians into the U.S. during the Mariel boatliff in 1980. President Ronald Reagan deferred the deportation of the children of 100,000 families if the parents of the families were gaining legal status under the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act, IRCA. In 1990, President George H. Bush used executive power to postpone deportations of up to 1.5 million spouses and children of people legalized under IRCA. In 1992, Presidents George H. Bush and Bill Clinton approved stays of deportation to about 190,000 El Salvadorans whose temporary protected status that permitted them to live and work in the U.S. had expired.

As you can see, most of these actions were either:

1. Over very long periods of time
2. Issues in conjunction with legislation passed by Congress

None of these activities involved unilateral actions with anywhere near the number of people OBAMA is talking about......estimated at 5 MILLION.

I think that's a cop out...how can the border be completely secure anyway ? We can't deport 11 million people....something should be done

There would be no reason for new laws if the current ones were enforced.

We currently have laws on the books which prohibit illegal entry into the USA. The President has a sworn duty to enforce them. But there are secure borders bills which passed the house last year and were held up in Senate. I expect them to reach Obama's desk in January

H.R. 1299 (112th): Secure Border Act of 2012
