Oh I think there is recepe for 150 years we were almost all Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish, German or Native American. Even though Swedes and Norwegians don't really like each other very much it did create a very homogeneous population along with almost all of them being Lutheran.
We had and still do have a very strong desire to take care of our neighbors. This of course is changing when places like Illinois and Ohio tell people go to MN the welfare is better there and the Fed gov dropping 100,00 Hmong here and then 20 years later dropping 100,000 Somalians here. Don't get me wrong I have great respect for the Hmong.
I live in a county where over 95% of the population is still Scandinavian. Exit polls showed we overwelmingly v**ed conservative last week, but how do you combat outside special interests when they spend 3 times the amount of money to keep the liberals in office.

Visual aids appear to be more efficacious in the case of Intellectual Liliputians, aka "progressives," who have a tendency to favor educational material with lots of pictures and very few big words.
