Boehner: If Obama "Acts Unilaterally" on Immigration, He Will "Poison the Well"

Daniel Doherty/ Nov 06, 2014

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) convened his first post-e******n press conference this afternoon on Capitol Hill. He began by reaffirming his support for Mitch McConnell as Senate Majority Leader, and thanked his constituents for once again re-electing him.

Then he got down to business.

“We can pass Keystone, restore the 40 hour work week (which was gutted by Obamacare), and pass the Hire Our Heroes Act,” he said, although he was quick to point out that this will be impossible without the president’s support.

“Yesterday we heard him say that he will double down on his go-it-alone approach,” he continued. “I told him he needs to put politics aside and rebuild trust.”

He then fielded questions from the media about several hot-button issues.

On Immigration:

“Our immigration system is broken and needs to be fixed,” he said. “But I made it clear to the president if he acts unilaterally [he] will poison the well and there will be no chance for immigration reform.”

“It’s as simple as that,” he emphasized.

On Obamacare:

“Obamacare is hurting our economy so next year I’m sure the House will move to replace [it],” he announced. “Now, whether that can pass in the Senate, I don't know.”

But the House, he said, will move to replace “what we can.”

“There are bipartisan majorities in the House and Senate to take some of these issues out of Obamacare,” he averred. Presumably, he was talking about repealing the medical device tax as well as other unpopular provisions within the law.

On The Newly-Elected House Republican Caucus:

“Yes, we have some new members who’ve made some [inflammatory] statements, I’ll give you that,” he intoned. “But the vast majority who are coming in are [solid].”

He also said he disagreed with the "premise" of the reporter's question.

On P**********l Overreach:

“When you play with matches, you take the risk of burning yourself,” he said.

“And [the president’s] going to burn himself if he goes down this path.”

I'm happy to know so many democrats lost their races because those people are big time trouble. I'm happy some good republicans won their races - we'll know more about them as time goes on.

I have a total lack trust in Obama, in John Boehner, and in Mitch McConnell, though I don't believe the two republicans are evil ........but the downside is that I also don't think they have the will or the guts to actually restore any of the freedoms we enjoyed before Reid got control of the Senate - and even then we were going downhill as a nation.

We still have a burdensome bunch of progs in office who are not intelligent enough to make an honest living, and they will be an anchor around our necks for a long time to come. IOW, I am pleased with the e******n results, but cannot bring myself to feel great relief because leaders cannot soar when tethered to albatrosses, and some soaring is what we need NOW. Additionally some "leaders" are not truly leaders and never will be.

If Obamacare is not rescinded, in my book McConnell and Boehner are big time failures and no more useful to America than Maxine Waters. If they do not stop the massive i*****l a***ns flooding our nation, they are big time failures. If they do nothing about providing honest e******n venues, they are big time failures. If they do not reign in the IRS, the EPA, the B*M and a host of other wannabe dictators within our government, the are big time failures. If they don't undo most of Obama's "policies', they are big time failures - and frankly I don't believe they want to tackle all of that. I don't believe they care a lot more about the US Constitution than Elijah Cummings does.

So.......I'm glad we are rid of some of the snakes in our government, but realize there are a goodly number of snakes left in our government.................and those snakes will do ANYTHING to keep those seats, anything except obey their own oaths of office.

It's going to be interesting, and I like you have little trust in the GOP leadership... Don D.
