EmilyD,
I've been using various versions of Linux for at least 20 years and Ubuntu Linux for 14 years. I personally love it. I can do everything with it that Windows can do and a lot more. Most of the linux releases will provide a live version (Live Desktop) that you can download, burn to a disk or flash drive and boot from it to try it out without affecting your existing operating system.
You can also install most Linux versions along side your windows and choose which one to use on startup. If you do that and decide you don't like Linux you can easily find instructions on the web that give you step-by-step how to remove it.
Linux is no longer the "Geek's" OS, in fact my 7 year old grandson uses Linux Lite on a mini laptop that I gave him after finding him using one of my Linux boxes to play games.
I will recommend that you download a version that you would like to try and put it on a flash drive and play with it enough to get used to the desktop and how it performs.
Linux also runs great on older computers that will no longer handle windows.

A few hours ago I went to the DOS prompt and ran chkdsk /R and while rebooting that command was ran and so far it seems like it took care of my problem but I am still considering Linux.
Iβve used linux for many years. Its a good alternative but depending on what you do it may not have the software you need. A virtual machine running Windows could take care of that

I prefer Macs but theyβre too expensiveβ¦.
[quote=Oldsailor65]Computer Problem
I have repaired PCs for close to 30 years but now I have a problem that has me beat. It is a bright yellow pop-up (attached). This happens on my Toshiba laptop with Win 10 Professional. I also have Win 10 Professional on my desktop but I don't have this problem.
My standard reply is, "Get a Mac." I started on a Mac once my job dumped the mainframe(?) and terminals, about the early 80 and haven't a clue of most things on a PC, even just finding how to do something with a PC. We had Macs at work, but was given a pc laptop for traveling and it was the hardest thing I have ever had to use. I reckon it is what you're use to.
