This week, the House passed a $40 billion bill to help Ukraine fight Russia. At least, that’s what it was supposedly for. I think most Americans want to help Ukraine, but Republican Rep. Chip Roy blasted the bill, saying he and his colleagues weren’t even given time to read it. While a number of Republicans v**ed for it, others argued that it’s too much money ($7 billion more than even President Biden asked for), it’s filled with unrelated expenditures, there’s no accountability for the money sent to Ukraine, and it could actually make war with Russia more likely. It’s also a massive amount of spending at a time when we have a $30 trillion debt, rampaging inflation, and we’re being told that we have no funds to secure our own border but we have $40 billion to defend the sovereignty of Ukraine’s borders.

Just years ago, we wouldn’t have imagined encounters reaching a level that high in a 12-month period, much less six. Due to the administration’s open border policies, illegal crossings have skyrocketed. We have now topped 2 million since President Biden took office, and many of those have been released into the interior of our country as they await a court date years into the future. This is a self-inflicted crisis, and it will only get worse.

On his first day on the job, the president fulfilled his campaign promise to halt border wall construction, even though walls have proven to be successful in deterring i*****l i*********n. He then went on to revoke former President Donald Trump’s successful “Remain-in-Mexico” program, which sent asylum seekers back to Mexico and prevented those individuals from being released into our country. Now, the administration plans to stop enforcement of Title 42, a Trump-era, public health policy that restricts illegal entry into the U.S. due to health concerns.

If you were a farmer with an entire crop (your livelihood) weeks away from harvesting and the markets were great, would the farmer be scared as he was sitting in his living room? Suddenly millions of locusts are heading towards his crops, with nothing stopping them. Is he safe? Physically, yes. How about his livelihood? No. I doubt if you'll get the analogy. Some will.
