The three of us conversed as the football game went to halftime on TV.The talking heads began to yak about a sports figure who was busted for shoplifting.We wondered why this popular athlete,who is earning a hefty salary(plus fringe benefits),would do something dumb like shoplift.Didn't he realize that it is seemingly impossible to get away with this crime today?There are security guards,floorwalkers,cameras and those special tags to bar your way from a successful mission.
Years ago,there was Winona Ryder,a Hollywood actor who was doing well in her career,and she decides to purloin some dresses.What was she thinking!
We came to the conclusion that the motivation to shoplift is derived from a thill factor.Having the nerve to walk out of the store with unpaid merchandise.What an adrenaline rush it must be.
We recalled a video we had recently seen.Three young rascals enter a store,load a cart full of beer and boldly exit the store.These lads have brass balls.
I can only speculate that,in any case,the thrill rapidly dissipates once you are in jail.Zeno
