I have the feeling that there are a lot of people on OPP who do not exactly "connect" with Sarah Silverman's comedy. But her video on equal pay for women is (to me) hilarious even if it is true to her vulgar form. A great in-your-face way to highlight the ine******y women suffer every day. Beware jot is not for heh under age.

Enjoy!

I'm more into the idea of passing laws to force employed women to work as hard as men to get equal pay. Most women, on a real job to job comparison, work about 80% as much as men. I know from experience that many employed women waste an hour or more a day on the phone on personal business. The same is true of texting. Many women spend an hour or more per day on computer shopping and social networks.

Then there are the "personal" days off. Got to take the kids to ?????. She's got a doctor's appointment. She's gotta leave early, or take an hour extra for lunch, for a hair appointment. She's out of work when the child is sick. Out of work when husband sick. In short, they need fifteen to thirty, or more, extra days off per year. Then there's that ten to fifteen minute bathroom break every thirty to forty-five minutes.

When job per job was compared and jobs without incentives and commissions and similar stuff were compared, women came out ahead. The problem is that among sales people, women don't do as well so they suffer in commission jobs. Also other jobs where you are paid by performance like sports, actors and singers, women don't bring in the same numbers. Sarah Silverman herself cannot compete with over a dozen male comedians in just making people laugh and thus make the money they do. This disparity continues to being CEO of companies. Few companies have faired as well under female CEOs as they did under men.

Then women pick careers and companies more in line with their personal goals while men pick their career paths with how much money they will make more a factor. Thus they do pick profit making enterprises more often and women pick charities more often that do not pay as well. Women also tend to use most if not all of their paid leave while men are very likely to let leave expire. So the men put in more hours and get better promotions and raises in addition to overtime pay.

But when they compared hours worked for the same companies in the same positions, women made 6% more per hour worked, mostly in the salaried positions, but also in getting their leave that the men let expire.

So go on comparing apples and oranges if it makes you happy but don't expect anyone to fall for it.

Remember what happened to Lilly Ledbetter. She got them to pass a law to allow her to sue and so she did and it became public knowledge that she did not get paid as much as her male counterparts because she was not a very good employee. If she had just sued when she first found out, no one would know what a lay about she really was.

Wow - I never really expected the males on OPP to be so sensitive to this topic and look for so many squirrely ways to skirt (pun intended) the issue of equal pay. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I think everyone advocating for equal pay is operating under the assumption of "for equal work."

Perhaps you should take that up with your God-King in the White House. Both he and his wifey pay female employees less than men for the same job. Let us not forget those other bastions of e******y for women, Nancy Pelosi, Dianne Feinstein, and Sheila Jackson Lee. They don't pay a good many of their people anything at all. You can do that when their job title is "intern."

I wish it was, but I have heard several complain about different jobs but with the same degree requirements (level only, ignoring what the degree is in). If you got an MBA you should make the same as a teacher with a Masters degree (the example given). So Bill Gates should make the same salary as a grill cook (my response since Bill never got a degree past his HS diploma).

Believe it or not, I backed the idea of equal pay until I started hearing that crap.

Just to be clear, my thumbs-up were for the funny way that AuntiE refuted Trooper's nonsense, and her decorum in not justifying his stupidity with a response.
