Any writings or sermons on our Christian faith can only be more autobiographical than authortative, more exploratory than explanatory

Why? Because not one of us is as yet perfectly mature in Christ. Whatever I may say in this thread is not the Truth but my truth, concocted from a minute, minuscule, span of years and very limited experiences, laced with my bias of nature and nurture. What we each come to hold and believe as the Truth is always subtly or grossly changing as Spirit works in us to make us of maximum service to others for the kingdom and of a loving child of God. But the path is an inner process. Only God can truly know our heart. Where anyone may be on this path will appear differently to another as possibly, inferior, superior, wayward, corrupt, admirable, deceptive and so on. We can never be certain of such judgment. What we can only do is to lovingly and respectfully and gently sit with those we may be concerned about to find the true nature of their belief.

In effect, we do not possess consciousness, we are part of consciousness, the mind of Christ. The fenced-off acre of self that we each created blocks us from that all encompassing Spirit. No Trespassing the Carnal Mind posts. And thankfully we sometimes get a writ of eviction by what that closed self seems to always struggle against these awful Mercies of God: Failure, Humiliation, and Loss, just to name the major ones. Our response of character building can put blocks, even walls, between us and his grace.

It is not to rise above, deny, or attempt to overcome our human nature but to allow it to fully mature through love, where we become active partakers of the divine nature. This is our inheritance as a child of God. Striving for perfection is sad and silly. Why strive for perfection, when to "be still" is to know God. To perfect yourself, be yourself, the Original Self that God created. Or not, your choice.
