But Trump always demanded to be compared with his predecessor, Barack Obama, and there he fell short. The Dow gained 72% during Obama’s first term, 14 percentage points better than it did during Trump’s term, though it was better than the 46% rise during Obama’s second term.

Still, a lot of this has to do with luck. What if a p******c hadn’t hit during the last year of Trump’s presidency? It’s fair to wonder if the gains would have been bigger it had been a normal year
