Liberals and Conservatives usually come from different sides of issues: the liberal, by inclination, challenges and looks to change the status quo; the Conservative to defend and possibly strengthen and enhance it. Neither are right or wrong all the time.

In America, what has usually happened in the past is that statesmen, not party hacks, see the virtue in both and look for a compromise that benefits the "common good" (a democratic term) and is not onerous to either side.

This has broken down and not only are the American people suffering for the neocon obstinance but so are American ideals. Since the prior post was aghast about the numbers, I pointed out that finding appropriate quotas for immigration require numbers in the millions. Attempting to use large numbers to incite hysteria is not appropriate -- all such numbers are in the millions. Further, the zero-immigrant plan of Ron Paul is pretty callous and not in America's best long-term interest, not to mention xenophobic.
