JOY IN THE MORNING

“For though there be a moment in His wrath, there is a lifetime in His favor. Weeping may lodge with us at evening, but in the morning there is a shout of joy.” (Ps. 30:5, Smith-Goodspeed)

There are those times and situations where it seems that weeping has surely come in to lodge for the night. You may not have outward tears, but inside your weeping continues — that deep hurt, that intense ache that will not go away. David knew the experience well, and said, “My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?” He remembered back to when he once went to the house of God with the voice of “joy and praise,” but now it was all different. Yet he was able to look ahead to that “joy in the morning” when he declared, “I shall yet praise Him, Who is the health of my countenance, and my God.” (Ps. 42:3,11).

While weeping may be lodging with you, there is a place where you are to be lodging at the same time. “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide (lodge, pass the night) under the shadow of the Almighty.” (Ps. 91:1). That is why there is a guarantee that joy will come in the morning. Though it be dark all around, as we ABIDE IN HIM, He works all things together into good. Then shall we sing anew, “Thou hast turned my mourning into dancing: Thou hast Put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness; to the end that my glory (inner self) may sing praises to Thee, and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks unto Thee for ever.” (Ps. 30:11-12).
