We Were Dropped...Now Insurance Companies Cannot Drop People In Fire Danger Zones

We had been notified that we were being dropped a few weeks ago, I lined up a dual plan that was part California fair coverage...it was looking like we would be going from $2800 to almost $10k a year

Our broker was telling us to hang on, she was waiting to hear about whether California was going to prohibit insurance companies from dropping people or not...got the good news Thursday, they could not drop us, and they will not be able to raise our rates much either...for two years we are safe.

Regulating insurance companies is a dem thing, because it sure as hell isn't a republican thing.

It was a relief, almost a thousand a month for fire insurance is no joke.

Oh come on, these people who run Calif. are the one who are not following the Forestry’s guidelines, allowing the thistle and pine needles to mount up so if lightening hits and starts a fire there’s no way to control it. I don’t blame the insurance companies one bit as dummies let that issue cause many heartbreaks. Say woodie where do you want it, the gut or the mouth.

Same with those that live in coastal flood zones. Flood insurance can run as much as a couple thousand a month. I had a home in TX on a county that bordered the Gulf. Because there might be hail damage, I had too purchase wind & hail coverage. The state said even though required, if the insurance fund became depleted, the State of Texas was under no obligation to meet the shortfall. Also, because my roof wasn't installed by a wind & hail "certified roofer", I would be unable to collect anyway. It didn't take long for me too realize the money being wasted on premiums could easily have paid for a roof replacement if necessary. I always thought Texans are being bamboozled by this insurance requirement.

Insurance is a business. It is also a gamble and a safety net. They charge so much a month based on the idea that over time their will be a reasonable profit on their investment, protecting your investment. As dangers increase, they have to charge more to balance their business interests, a reasonable profit, against your business interests, covering your home in case of fire or other damages. If they can charge enough to make a small profit, they can stay in business protecting you. If not, they could go out of business leaving you with nothing when a catastrophe happens. And if your home is in a zone, ripe for catastrophes you have to pay more. When the freaking state sticks its nose in and stops reasonable rate increases, they go broke and when catastrophe strikes, you get nothing. Simple mathematics. Simple business. And you think it is great getting protection from the State while they go broke. You're on welfare now. That is why you are a Democrat and the problem in this world. You want everyone to take care of you, because you don't have enough common sense to take care of yourselves, and balance your risks and investments, And that is why you and Democrats are bad for this world. And your state will go broke taking care of stupid people.

Good simple facts to ol woodie the troll, I’m a conservative and I care for my US heritage, but these halfwits think they’re Gods gift to America, going against the majority of citizens that don’t support the minority progressives agenda, jus like what they post here on OPP they don’t even acknowledge the corrections or learn like mature individuals.

Yet the government insures people in Florida and beach properties because no insurance company will sign up for replacing someone's house every couple of years.

I wonder what your premiums would look like if you had some people running the show over there who had even a basic concept of resource management and proactive fire prevention.

Faster and better, remember someone else is faster and better than you, but karma will turn tables on you. You think your sharp but your not seeing what other people realize about you when you post, that you have a mental deficiency, but im not worried about it cause you probably won’t make it back to your spiritual home, you won’t be missed, in other words…. you should be aware enough to catch that.

I'm not justifying that. It is not the governments business to bail out fools who build in a flood zone or a hurricane area on the beach. It is their risk. Build it to withstand the threat or so flimsy that you can afford to rebuild it every few years, But not on my dime.

That being said, yes, unusual circumstances do occur and deserve some government support.

People shouldn't be allowed to build in those areas, if they didn't your insurance rates would drop.
