Thank you, Armageddun,

He was truly a remarkable and unique spokesman for our Lord, Jesus, who was (in S.M. Lockridge's words), "older than His mother, Mary, and the same age as His Father, God the Father."

Although Dr. Lockridge's given name, "Shadrach Meshach," are biblical names from the book of Daniel, it's not really hard to understand why he chose to go by his initials, S.M.!

Dr. S. M. Lockridge, AKA, Shadrach Meshach Lockridge, was the son of a Baptist minister, born: March 7, 1913, in Robertson County, Texas, U.S.

The oldest of eight children and a graduate of Bishop College in Marshall, Texas, after working for two years in Dallas as a high school English teacher, in 1940, he was led to preach.

He graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1942, and accepted his first pastorate at Fourth Ward Baptist Church in Ennis, Texas.

His forty year ministry was as the Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, a prominent African-American congregation in San Diego, California, from 1953 until retiring in 1993. He was known for his preaching across the United States and around the world.

He also served in key regional, state and national positions with the Baptist Church, including being elected the first president of the National Missionary Baptist Convention of America.

During Dr. Lockridge’s tenure at Calvary Baptist, his ministry touched the lives of more than 100,000 people. He preached at crusades, revivals, religious rallies and evangelistic conferences in forty different countries around the world.

He held doctorates and numerous honorary degrees and was often sought as a public speaker. Even after he retired in 1993, he served as guest lecturer at numerous schools and universities and on the faculty of several others, including the Billy Graham School of Evangelism.

Dr. Lockridge was active in the civil rights movement, and under his leadership Calvary Baptist hosted several of its leaders, including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the Rev. Jesse Jackson.

He died to this world, and went home to be with his Lord: April 4, 2000, in San Diego, California, U.S.
