Juneteenth is a day on which we celebrate the emancipation of the s***es in America. That emancipation was a critical part of the American upgrade to a nation of freedom, which contrary to institutionalized education did NOT actually result from American independence.

Freedom in America is the result of a much longer history of social development that started long before the Declaration of Independence and is still continuing to this day.

It makes sense to consider how freedom is most often a product of prosperity which during the agrarian age almost always required land ownership.

Long before the "revolution" people were getting frustrated with the lack of available land in Europe that forced them into a subordinate existence as serfs. Many of them ventured across the Atlantic to find land in the New World and claim it as their own. In 1775, 90% of the people in the 13 colonies were farmers that had achieved a great deal of freedom just from their agricultural success.

Independence from Britain didn't change that in the least. In fact, the Constitution enforced the status quo by limiting v****g rights to landowners only (as long as they were white males). Also consider the fact that American colonists were already allowed to bear arms long before independence and the 2nd Amendment. Same thing for religious freedom. Europeans have been coming to America to practice their ways for over a century before the Declaration of Independence and the 1st Amendment.

And since the "revolution" America has continued to work toward more freedom which is why ALL upstanding citizens are officially allowed to v**e now, not just white males with land titles. The emancipation is probably the most significant event in this long procession toward greater freedom for all.

I consider it a bright spot in our history.

What it celebrates as an underlying narrative is that it is the day Texas stopped refusing to recognize that s***es had been freed two years earlier, the Juneteenth narrative and historical realities pertaining to how they have been treated is part of the waking people up. The right wants nothing to do with these realities being taught as history

EXACTLY Right
And to be honest, after driving through 32 blocks of downtown Louisville KY in order to settle my curiosity, I have yet to see one single sign of Celebration in any of the Black Communities.
They too must not want anything to do with these realities. Hmmmm....
What else have you got?

The day of freedom as delivered by the white man. Just as Israel was led from bandage out of Egypt, so the American negro was led by the blood of white men to freedom. His ens***ement came at the hands of his own, not his deliverer.

Lincoln did not free the s***es in the CSA with his Proclamation. S***es were not physically free until the end of the Civil War in April 1865. Yes, Lincoln said s***es were free, but Lincoln did not have any authority to free s***es in the CSA. The Proclaimation was pure politics.

That would be Lincoln’s birthday! Celebrate that and not lump in with Presidents’ Day!

Juneteenth points to the treachery of the dying Confederacy and its determination to sustain the institution of s***ery by any means necessary. Rather than abide by the Emancipation Proclamation, s***eholders continued to hold some 250,000 Black people throughout Texas in captivity long after they should have been freed.

We can’t let Delaware, Maryland, Kentucky, Missouri and West Virginia off the hook for their defiance either. S***ery was a lucrative business in states that bordered the Confederacy, though they never seceded from the Union. It took an act of Congress to force them to give it up.

Dang yankees!!

The idea of a "juneteenth", without even considering the establishment of it, is the most pathetic political ploy I've ever seen. Whoever thought that one up should be keel hauled and dumped in the Bermuda Triangle.

Freedom, of the human kind, is not dependent on prosperity in any way whatsoever. Anyone who thinks it is is seriously disconnected from reality.

FYI: Those who came to the North American continent were not looking for real estate.

The Republican Party was formed largely on an anti-s***ery platform. It emerged in 1854 to combat the expansion of s***ery into American territories and new states. The theme was “Free Soil, Free Labor, Free Men,” with “Free Soil” referring to granting western land to farmers.

The first Republican Party president was Abraham Lincoln, who led the Union’s war against the Southern Confederacy, a war that was not wholly about s***ery, but s***ery was a fundamental aspect.

In 1865, the Republicans passed the Thirteenth Amendment banning s***ery.

In 1868, Republicans passed the Fourteenth Amendment granting citizenship to former s***es and equal protection under the law.

Under President Ulysses Grant (1868-1876), Republicans, backed by federal troops, sought to “Reconstruct” the South and enforce federal laws granting liberties to b****s. They formed “Union Leagues” and fought the Ku Klux Klan and other segregationist forces.

In 1872, the first seven black members of the United States Senate and House of Representatives were Republicans.

In 1873, Democrats won control of the House of Representatives at the federal level and formed “Redeemer” coalitions that gradually gained control over the state governments in the South.

In 1877, federal troops were removed from the Southern states and the era of Reconstruction ended. Democratic-controlled southern governments enacted segregation policies, called “Jim Crow Laws, which effectively disenfranchised b****s and segregated all aspects of society. “The region then became the Solid South, giving overwhelming majorities of its e*******l v**es and Congressional seats to the Democrats through 1964”

We have a really strange phenomenon. If you look at what’s going on now, you have Democrats, on the left, pointing the finger of r****m at the very people who fought r****m from the beginning of this country’s history, while suppressing the fact that the actual r****m came from their party. This is not just about s***ery. The Democrats were the party of s***ery, of segregation, of founding the Ku Klux Klan, of reviving the Ku Klux Klan, of racial terrorism, and of opposition to the civil rights movement of the 1960s. The opposition to the civil rights act of 1964, the v****g rights act of 1965, the fair housing bill of 1968 came mainly from the Democratic party, and that’s a fact.

Indeed, the precise meaning of the holiday - the spirit of the struggle being a larger celebration. I don't know what the problem on the right is with regard to just being educated. I'm sure it's a mix of many issues. Ranging from genuine ignorance to outright r****t hatred.
