Pythons eat alligator eggs and alligators are a barometer of how healthy the everglades are. Pythons were not native and are an invasive species that displaces many others. The alligator population keeps the other species in check so that their populations do not run amok. Fewer alligators will upset the natural biodiversity of the area and cause some species to disappear completely allowing other invasive species to become dominant. I think there currently is a bounty for pythons.
A good solution for the python problem is a few good recipes and a good shoe maker. They make great boots also. Probably belts too. If Americans could wipe out the passenger pigeon because they were tasty and almost wipe out the buffalo over their fur, and put beavers on the endangered species list over beaver hats, why can't we get rid of a good tasting snake with a great looking skin.
