About This Episode
Collectivism did not begin with Karl Marx. Other major historical and philosophical figures preceded Marx, and laid the stepping stones to collectivist hell. In this, Lesson Seven, we look at one of those troubling intellectual engineers, Jean Jacques Rousseau. We look at his life in the 18th Century, at his early use of envy to seduce supporters and demonize private property, his promotion of collectivism to force people into equal misery, rather than economic growth, and his personal hypocrisy – which was stunning and profoundly troubling…

How ironic, our forefathers were reading Rousseau's, "The Social Contract," when they wrote the Declaration of Independence and later or Constitution. Where do you think they come up with the fact that Government exists upon the consent of the governed? Do you think they dreamt that up themselves or did they get that from the philosophers they were reading at the time?

The level of ignorance you conservatives possess honest to god seems to have no boundaries. YOU sit there and pick away at the philosophers for whom, without, this nation wouldn't exist and act as if that's the most natural thing in the world! What exactly are you trying to undo? Your first target has been Democracy and then act as if a Republic can stand without it? So how are you going to elect your representatives if you don't democratically vote them in? Now your target is Russeau? Yes, Marx is a product of Russeau but by extension, he is also a product of Locke and Locke a product of Hobbs (the father of conservatism), and without them, the very basis that we could claim the legal high ground was that King George has broken the Social Contract which then legally and morally justified our revolution!

Yes, Marx based his principle on their writings but so did our founding fathers! Do you honestly think they were able to pull what they wrote out of their asses which then brought justification to our Revolution? God almighty I have to shake my head whenever you conservatives speak! If we keep trying to destroy the philosophers that our ideologies are based on what are we going to have left? Do you people ever stop to think of that? I think not. Be careful, because if you go back far enough and listen to the teaching of Jesus Christ there is more justification for socialism and the government of the people than the greed of capitalism and a government based on autocracy or rule of the powerful!

You are so full of malarky you ignorant pompous pseudo-intellectual. Locke, Burke, Hobbs, Montesquieu, Aristotle. Another Social Compact was the Mayflower Compact, and John Winthorp's "Covenant with God." All these philosophers came well before Rousseau and had a much greater impact on the founders.

PS. Of course The Founders read everything they could get their hands on about Government. They read enough about pure Democracy to know it does not work.

The Founders knew the Government they formed would collapse if the character of the Representatives & Senators was not good & if they were dependent of the Government. That is what has happened to this country. The current President is an excellent example, never had a “real” job in his life.

The House & Senate is full of fools & morons supported by special interests groups, the “squad”, Warnock, Ossoff, immediately come to mind.

Rousseau did not weather The French Revolution very well. His mouth got him a quick exit from earth. If you are such an expert on history, you should know that historically, radical leftist end up eating their own, trying to out leftist each other. You might also know the phrase, “Let them eat cake.” Was Rousseau’s made when Marie Antoinette was 9 years old. Maybe you know the Revolutionist tried to kill LaFayette because he was not radical enough.

The ideas 3 generations of indoctrinated kids have now are unworkable. The teachers, professors, who preach this crap are secure in their tenured positions, immune to anything their teachings cause, protected by the teachers’ unions, darlings of the liberal/leftists. They might look at what happened to Rousseau.

The teachings of Jesus, assume a loyalty to religious tenets, which is long gone here now. You liberal/leftists are actively trying to destroy all religions except Islam for some reason beyond what I can fathom. France fought Muslims for years in their largest colonies, now have basically given half of France to them & it is working out just “fine” for them, like it is working out for the wives of our troops stationed in Germany.

Once again, I would like to know what “We the people.” You think you are a part of?

Destroy the philosophers our ideologies are based on - is that not a leftest idea - cancel culture.
Human nature is such that everyone will take care of their own self interest and can do it better than any government.
Capitalism is the only economic system that has benefited more people than any other system in the world.
30 years ago Venezuela was the richest South American country and the people ate the lie from Hugo who then became a dictator and implemented socialism.
Look at where China is today due to the government allowing Capitalist ideas and investments.

I didn't say Rousseau was the only influence only that he wrote a book called "The Social Contract" and it's because King George broke the contract that we claimed a legal right to the revolution. The founders weren't like you knuckle-dragging conservatives and stormed the castle because your faux king lied to you but were principled and always had us on a legal foundation.

Rousseau didn't partake in the French Revolution but died from a stroke prior to its beginning. And just what religious tenents were privy to our government prior to us liberals meddling in it? As for your religion, its success or failure has nothing to do with us liberals and everything to do with the direction you conservatives are steering it. Don't blame us for your failure--that belongs to you conservatives and you alone...

No, you didn't. You certainly implied it. What is ironic about the founders reading philosophers such as Rousseau? I mostly object to your snarkiness which is ever-present in your posts. You just needed another excuse to lash out at conservatism. I wonder why since it is leftism that is destroying this country, and at an ever-increasing pace.

That's the aim of the uneducated leftist and their cancel-culture.

While you're at it don't forget the influence of Adam Smith's Wealth of Netions which was published the same year as the Declaration of Independence and was also a great influence on the founders when they wrote the Constitution.

Marx's idea of a social contract was similar in words only. His understanding of what it meant was far off from the freedom and liberty-loving Americans' idea of individuality. The social contract can mean many things.
