Chapter 53 of the Book of Isaiah is perhaps the most recognized prophecy about Christ in the Old Testament. This astounding chapter describes in detail how the Messiah will be oppressed, but his suffering will bring redemption for humanity. Jesus’ name doesn’t appear at all Isaiah 53, but what code do we discover when we read it in Hebrew?
The Messiah Who Bore Our Infirmities
Usually, when the Hebrew Bible describes the promised Messiah, it talks about a king who will triumph magnificently. Strangely, Isaiah chapter 53 describes a suffering Messiah whose gruesome death will atone for the sins of all humanity, “He was wounded for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities.” Given that Jesus of Nazareth was rejected and beaten, this chapter is one of the strongest proofs that he was indeed the Messiah.
A Coded Messianic Secret
However, the prophet Isaiah unfortunately never tells us the name of this “man of suffering,” so how can we be sure this prophecy actually refers to Jesus? We need to set aside our translation and turn to the original Hebrew text of Isaiah. If we begin at verse 53:10 and count every twentieth letter backwards, we discover seven hidden letters that spell: ישוע שמי (yeshua sh’mi) meaning “Jesus is my name”.
Find the hidden codes through Hebrew
Only in Hebrew can you find the name of Jesus hiding within Isaiah 53! But the only way to reveal this hidden code is to read the Bible in the original Hebrew. We invite you to take your appreciation of Scripture to the next level by learning Biblical Hebrew in our live online courses today.
