Whole Foods CEO Suggests Americans Wouldn't Need Healthcare If They Ate Better

Whole Foods CEO John Mackey said Americans would not need healthcare if they ate better and lived healthier lives.

"I mean, honestly, we talk about healthcare. The best solution is not to need health care," Mackey told Freakonomics Radio on Nov. 4 and was first reported on Monday by CNBC.

"The best solution is to change the way people eat, the way they live, the lifestyle, and diet," he said. "There's no reason why people shouldn't be healthy and have a longer healthspan. A bunch of drugs is not going to solve the problem."

CEOs.
Where would we be without them.
I suppose he has several studies from Whole Foods University to back it all up.
If you think for a minute he cares about what you eat, think again.
This statement may , just may, increase his bottom line.
Which was the purpose of the statement.

Honestly.

Correct. Who is going to fund those studies, Big Pharma?

Read a study (about a decade back) that the US government conducted... Turns out when pregnant women do heroin it's bad for the baby

There's a lot of t***h to the eat right, and exercise will make you much healthier, but in many cases genetics cause things that only a decent health care system can deal with. I eat healthy, mainly a Mediterranean diet, exercise every daily, not over weight but still have a genetic heart condition and lung problems from a childhood sickness that puts me at risk of an early death. So far my heath care providers have helped keep me fairly healthy but without them I'd been a dead man years ago.

That said, when I was a young man I used to drive across the state line because the girls there were much better looking and fit. Now if you set in the parking lot of the grocery store you'll find most of the women there are obese and not healthy at all. Something good to be said about staying fit and having a decent health care program

This is very true. Now, if gov folks had the courage to stop subsidizing the pharma industry ( with OUR money no less ) and begin subsidizing the healthy food industries, including a massive education effort, we could eliminate 60% ( estimated ) of our current healthcare costs - which are the highest in the whole wide world.

Unfortunately, gov folks will not bite the hand that feeds them ( they'll bite the hands of those who employ them without a second thought ) by pissing off big pharma and allied healthcare corporations. Here's the real tragedy...........................................taxpayers are paying politicians and big corporations AND paying the corporations AGAIN.........................for the very things that are k*****g them.

Very true about genetics both in physique and hour health attributes as well... Certain Characteristics of family traits like heart attacks, diabetes, cancer etc. Necessity and being aware of them so you can take wh**ever precautionary measures you can to try to at least diminish your exposure factor although most ones from genetics we can recognize and do what we can to fend off what we can..

Very glad your healthcare providers are having success with you and keeping you healthy, a very good thing. May they continue to help you and may you continue to stay healthy and happy...

Thank you so much Lindajoy, you are a joy and I wish you all the health and happiness the world can bring you. While for many health care is something that's very hard to come by I've been blessed by both a good health care provider and the get up and go to exercise daily, it takes both when you get my age.

Thank You, Michael..

Having good health ( and providers) and get up and go is what helps keep us going..😊 It takes both at any age, just a little more as we age..😉

Dance, walk, hike, swimming and just liven life (stress free) works wonders!!!

For me its always been dance... My Dad taught me to “ sway” and I loved it which I suspect is why I do so much dancing now... Greattttt exercise too!!

Take for instance.~~
