How Can You Really Understand the Bible?

In the past, when you did not understand a word, you would consult a dictionary. These days, it is easier to search online. But what are you to do when you do not understand a sentence in the Bible? You need the most powerful biblical explanatory tool: Hebrew.

Lost in translation
Let’s say you are reading chapter 7 of the Gospel of Mark. You understand everything Jesus has said about the Pharisees preferring the “tradition of the elders” over God’s Word. But then you come to the verse, “whatever support you may have had from me is Corban,” and you stop in your tracks. What is Corban? You consult an online dictionary and see that this word means “an offering to God.”

Coming near the Lord
But there is much more that you are missing! Corban is actually a Hebrew word which Mark chose not to translate. Why? Because he understood that Corban (קָרְבָּן) comes from the root CRB meaning “to come close to.” To make a Corban, sacrifice, is to bring an animal to the altar in Jerusalem, coming as close to God as is physically possible. As a result of this gift, the offeror is brought spiritually closer to God.

Let Hebrew guide you
There are many familiar verses in the Bible which you have read dozens of times. They will suddenly burst with new meaning when you can read them in the original language of God: Hebrew. Knowing Hebrew is like having the most authoritative guide to the Bible right beside you at all times. Let go of translations - enroll in our live online courses and let Hebrew be your Biblical guide!

Jesus explained it. The Bible is written to intentionally confuse the evil persons, but sanctified folks need only approach it with humility and "in spirit" and the truth will be revealed to them.
