It's his lie, and he's sticking to it.

That's a Democrat thing: if there's nothing legitimate available with which to attack the opposition, make something up and keep repeating it until people believe it.

In this case however, all the repetition has done has been to make the liars themselves believe it.

Talk about a backfire!
