The Palisades are cliffs several hundred feet above the Hudson River. Several years ago thieves robbed a jewelry store.
They came across the George Washington Bridge and on to the Palisades Parkway. They came to an overlook and one of them ran in the dark. He feel on to a ledge about 400 feet above the Hudson River. i was the Lt. Of the heavy rescue unit.
We had a fire truck put a wire through the last last rung and They lowered me over the side down to the ledge. When I got there he pulled a knife on me. Everything was fine until a policeman turned on.his spotlight. I am afriad of height and over the radio told him to shut off his dam light.
They pulled me up and a trooper was lowered down. He tookthe knife away and handcuffed him. I wnt down again and treated the crook.
When it was over I received a call from the FCC and was told that they could, but didn't, arrest me for swearing over the radio.
At that time there was an organization called legion of decency. They had people at all live radio and TV stations. If someone swore on the air they shut the program and elevator music was played for the restof the program time.
Comedians on comedy shows were cut off and fined more than any other profession.
