I lived in California since 1985, but after watching Sweet Home Alabama for 1000th time, I miss South!! I miss Southern hospitality , I miss Southern food... I lived in Louisiana for 5 years . .. One day I want to visit Shreveport , maybe New Orleans ... I'm sure South changed , but I'm sure Southern hospitality hasn't !! Some things just don't change!!! :

I'm from Huntsville AL and nothing about Huntsville is the same, Huntsville is 10 times as big as when I was growing up. Pretty much north central to north west AL is one big city. all the small towns have grown together. I was in Shreveport a few years back and it's about the same, big city, fast paced. The world has go and got itself in a big hurry. We would wave at everyone driving down the road and they would wave back, that's all gone no one pays attention any more. The news in Huntsville almost always starts off with last nights shootings and how many were k**led. I'm sure when you get around the smaller towns you still get some friendly people but pretty much no one trust anyone else. The things we did as a kid, walking thru someones field, following a creek fishing, all that is gone, now everything is posted no trespassing. The lakes and rivers are polluted even the Tennessee River once a clean river is now polluted with forever chemicals that 3M or Monsanto has dumped.
The south has turned into something I don't don't recognize any more.

I drove an hour north of Huntsville into Tennessee this morning to take this picture, not many fields like this around me any more. It is sad but there are two constants in this life one is death, the other change and I struggle sometimes to except all the change I've witnessed here. All the fields around my place that used to look just like this are housing subdivisions.
