India is a natural ally for the US to try to counter China. They have border disputes with China. Like the US they are a former British colony so there are cultural and language ties. China's aggressive actions in Asia have pushed Nations like India, S. Korea, the Philippines, and Japan closer to the US, who 75 years after WW2 likely are weary of US influence and power.
The US Navy is doing the job the British Navy did in the 19th century of guaranteeing international sea trade. It is foreseeable that within the next half century the Chinese Navy will increasingly fill that role. Particularly if the l*****ts take over AmeriKa and turn it into Venezuela.
