I agree, it just gives judges discretion. Imagine if you're an 18 yr old high school student & the girl is your girlfriend, should be be labeled for the rest of his life or segregated with much older males? It's not much different (as far as discretion) than the 3 strike rule. There are people in jail for life because they stole some minor item valued at less than $25. With the 3 strike rule, judges hangs are tied.

They don’t adhere to three strikes! Judges do as they choose in liberal states!!

Biblically, 14 was a fine age for marriage...

I believe Mary was 13...

I like to think that she gave consent...

How would you feel if it was your previous daughter?

The answer is yes...

I know that's not what you expected from me...

But it's the t***h...

Historically 14 has been a fine age to engage in sexual intercourse... It's only in the modern age that we have raised the expectation...

And....

14 is old enough to give consent...All over the world there are 14 year olds who do it... In many nations it is legal to marry at 14 or younger... Including the US (certain states)..

At 16 I was in a relationship with a woman who was 30... That's a 14 year age difference... I was closer to her son's age than hers.... I wasn't raped or taken advantage of (despite some pretty awesome role playing)... It was completely consensual...

I also have an aunt who married a man 20 years older than her at the age of 15... They had 2 kids and around 40 good years together...

The part that has been left out of the premise above is that the felon can't have any other criminal charges and a judge needs to sign off on it...

Imagine if you were a university student at a frat party and a 14 year old girl snuck in... Your drinking and having a good time and you score... The next day the girl's family freajs and files charges against you... You're arrested for rape of a minor... Sentenced to prison... After serving your sentence you get out and are forced to register on a sex offender registry... Imagine trying to find work or just being part of a community....

That stuff happens...
The answer is yes... br br I know that's not wh... (show quote)

Can 14 year old consent sexual relationship with an adult ?? Our Governor in California signed a law or about to sign a law stating that if 14 year old girl consents to have sex with 22 year old,he doesn't have to have his name on sex offender registry! The only problem is 14 year old is not old enough to have sex PERIOD , especially with 22 year old !

The question here is LEGAL consent to have sex. I hope everyone here can setback and take a deep, cleansing breath. There are several important issues not raised here. Why is it that anyone thinks a 14 year-old girl can give legal consent to an adult male? I'm assuming in this scenario the girl still lives at home with her parents and is totally dependent on them for food, clothing, shelter, education and so forth. If she were to get pregnant, get a venereal disease, get an a******n (successfully or botched), or choose to keep the baby the fact is IN MOST CASES, the parents are the ones left out hung to dry and pay for all the subsequent expenses. There are also the psychological trauma to a woman who is just too young emotionally to have an intimate relationship. And statistically, despite her declarations of how much she loves him, rarely do these relationships end up in a stable, married relationship and they virtually all end between 6 to 12 months.
I managed to stay a virgin until I was engaged in my early 20's. I never had an a******n, or gave birth to an unwanted baby. I've never had an STD or been humiliated when I went to a party and ran into someone I shouldn't have slept with. There's a lot to be said for abstinence I also don't have to deal with feelings of guilt
Parents are supposed to protect and defend their children. Why, as a society, do we make it more difficult?

What you speak of is “moral conduct” not statutory laws governing legal consent....
Not that I disagree with what you say but the “ laws” do not defend on the bases of moral issues but rather the laws goVerning each state..

Consider please a look at the state laws noting even their variance..

What Is the Age of Consent?

Federal law makes it criminal to engage in a sexual act with another person who is between the age of 12 and 16 if they are at least four years younger than you. Each state takes a different approach as the age of consent has ranged from 10 to 18. Some states, such as California and New York, set an age at which all sexual intercourse is considered statutory rape. For example, a state might set the age of consent at 18. In this hypothetical state, two seventeen-year-olds who had consensual sex could both theoretically be convicted of statutory rape.

What Is Statutory Rape?
Statutory rape occurs when a person over the age of consent engages in sexual intercourse with someone under the statutory age of consent, also known as a minor. In most states, the age of consent has been arbitrarily designated by statute. However, this age of consent varies widely from state to state. Statutory rape is a strict liability crime, meaning that the consent of the younger person or mistake about their age is not a defense.

Other states imply a different method which, like the federal statute, takes into account the relative ages of both people. In these states, such as Texas, the age of consent is determined by age differentials between the two persons and limited by a minimum age. For example, a state might set a minimum age of 14 but limit consent to partners who are within 3 years of their age. This would allow a sixteen-year-old to lawfully have sex with a fourteen-year-old, but make it criminal for an eighteen-year-old to have sex with that same fourteen-year-old.

We don’t teach our children to lie, yet they do..
We don’t teach them to use drugs or alcohol, yet they do..
We don’t teach them to steal, yet they do..etc..
We believe we are raising our children right yet as they develop they have their own set of challenges and opportunities to test the waters of our guidance and some make the wrong choices..They are after all children who have not yet grown into maturity or that level if reasoning considering ramifications and responsibility of their actions... Hell, nor do many adults if t***h be told..

Raising our children right diminishes some of the wrong decisions that could be made but certainly not all.. As we see in society today.. Because of this we do need strong laws in place to deter “ potential crimes against child abuse, neglect, rape, incest, etcetcetc..

But for them ramifications taken into the hands of parent would up many more criminal charges of assault or murder against those committing the abuse....

Kinda goes back to where there is no law in society soon enough there is no society... Take for example the lawlessness now going on in states that actually promote it to further their political agenda, as example.. Or the number of a******ns used as birth control.. Or rape etc..

In other words sh*** happens outside of our control and when they do we need to rid society of the dregs of society! Law and order...
