I have a friend who's a Washoe tribe member.
When I told him ravens and owls were my favorite birds he laughed, telling me they considered both those birds kinda bad luck.

In some tribes, owls are harbingers of death, possibly because their feathers have a unique design which allows them to descend upon their prey without making a sound.
