Well, you have to be or become an equipment operator, I don't recall the last time I turned over the keys to an 18 year old to operate a front end loader-since everyone wants to become a rap star around here.

What to hell? They can handle a pooper scooper without a license. There is plenty of liberal s**t in the city parks of Detroit.

My cousin is an equipment operator for a company that has a contract to remove 700 homes and structures, just another 11, 000 to go....

Ford Motor Company had a plant in Wixom, that they tore down this year, (2013-2014). Cost 11 million to take down the facility. It opened in 1958. Lincolns, and the last T-bird came out of that plant. Stunning to see it gone.

...only because at one time many of those homes were stunning. Built long before the depression and full of beautiful hardwoods (the ones that didn't get touched by devils night)....a waste to see them destroyed. Many years ago the city passed an ordinance to prevent the homes from being moved to other locations. As the value dropped on these homes, people just walked away from them.

My cousin texted me last week. They have to chase vagrants out every day before they can begin work.

I find this to be a bizarre suggestion....how do you force someone to work? You act as if Detroit is a prison camp.

So what exactly is the problem with making these people work???? Make them clean that pig sty up, they trashed it!!! You would expect nothing less of your children when they mess their rooms up!! I recall reading that you live in Detroit. What is your solution???

Bulldoze it, which is what is happening. There: clean-up done.

And no, they aren't the only ones that trashed it, plenty of industries over the years did their share of damage, who went bankrupt and didn't clean up their mess. It is more accurate to say they didn't maintain it-those who chose to stay. What incentive do you have to maintain a house that is worth $5000 whether it looks nice or not. Most of these home even if the owner chipped in sweat equity would cost thousands to restore. What kind of jobs do you think people have that live in $5000 homes have exactly: CEO's or something?

Yea, even the staircases are built like furniture. Cherry and Walnut. The wood alone is worth thousands of dollars.

Well I hope that things change on the water issue during this 15 day "seize fire."
I raed where there will be 300,000 without if not. I hope you aren't in an area where they shut the gate valve off to the whole area. One good thing they can just turn it back on when the time comes unlike with a gas line where each house needs to be shut off before turning back on and then each house turned on and relit separately. Stock up my friend. Couple drops of Clorox, fill the tub and buy some 55ers if you have to.

I'm glad you brought this up, but again, a business solution, albeit unethical, is just desserts for non-tax paying entities. We as citizens of a much larger state than the city of Detroit are tired of flushing money down the toilet instead of water.

Dummy Boy-Detroit has the best of both worlds-inundated by unions and run by democrats. What could possibly go wrong ? Good Luck America !!!

No, I live in a rural community that has been on it's own well for 40 years. And we pay our water bill every month. Not too hard to swing $25/month on my salary.

My standby water charge in California is $100 per month. My tenant uses 100 to 300 a month because I pay the bill and collect from him.
