its time to go into places like detroit and force these people to work if they want welfare and eveything free make them clean the steets orclean the empty lots, just make them do something.

Water is a necessity, not only for drinking, but for flushing the toilet. The health problems associated with lack of water are staggering.

So, you raise the water rates for those who can pay in order to furnish water for those who can't (or won't) pay. Then those who could pay, no longer can pay. A vicious cycle.

I wish I were smart enough to find a solution, but I'm not.

I find this to be a bizarre suggestion....how do you force someone to work? You act as if Detroit is a prison camp.

Hunger. The suggestion goes all the way back to Biblical times.

it is ,of their own making.and im sure you would think its bizarre to think people should be made to work if they refuse to to support them selves.but i find it just as bizarre that you dont find it a problem to make people pay for the slackers.as a man once said if they dont work they dont eat.

If you have no place to work, then forcing someone to do something that isn't possible is a bizarre suggestion.

Apparently, you are wholly unaware of the blight of jobs in the Detroit area. As a state, we are still North of 7.9% jobless rate. And Detroit isn't hiring, so the only jobs available are crime and crime.

Oh really, you think it is absolutely of their own making...hmmm, interesting. Oh, and we as a state have decided not to pay for the slackers. Even Wayne County has only 1500 families on watchdog lists. That isn't the issue.

There are 30% of the inner city homes that need torn down. How can you say there is no work? We aren't talking about paying jobs we are talking about welfare checks.

You don't force them to work. You require them to work in order to get paid welfare.

They can work or not. It's there choice.

Actually something like this was proposed by Ted Kennedy may years ago called 'WorkFare'.

The opposition is from left and right. The left doesn't want people to be demeaned by work (as opposed to getting free welfare, or as they call it 'entitlements'). The right doesn't want it to spread until everyone works for the government as they do in Russia.

I also think that this has a lot to do with it also. They wouldn't want their contributors to be hurt by anything requiring people to give back.

We already paid for the fence based on the lying promise of the libs from the reagan era amnesty program.......

We paid for it, and they kept the money, and the fence.

Well, you have to be or become an equipment operator, I don't recall the last time I turned over the keys to an 18 year old to operate a front end loader-since everyone wants to become a rap star around here.

Lots of shovel ready jobs come along with demolition. Back d**g, scoop and shovel.
