Seems we might have a problem here. 31 years on this place, and I've k**led....now 8 rattlesnakes. Two in the past month. Both of them big ones. 4 foot, or better.
At least this one didn't get a strike at my dogs, or horse!

That's a big one. Is it dead in this picture?

Yeah. It just didn't know it. I stretched it out but it kept trying. Snakes are strange.
Have to be careful! Even a dead rattler (or moccasin or copperhead) can still get its fangs in you and inject venom. How, I do not know, but suspect it has to do with reflexes present for a while after death. Those are some nasty creatures!

We shoot then in the head. I h**e rattlesnakes. Use snake shot myself in a .357 what did you use?
You know the Democrats have to change their masscot to a rattler. Then I could say another Democrat bites the dust. Oh well I guess we have to put up with the jackass

I used to work at Arrowhead Christian Conference Center up Old Waterman Canyon above San Bernardino.
Rattlesnake heaven! I took care of the 5 wells and the sewage treatment plant.
The well highest on the mountain was only 100 yards or so below the "arrowhead" that half the town and Arrowhead Water is known for. I had to walk to it sometimes and it was unusual to NOT be warned by unseen rattlesnakes in the brush off the road.
The groundskeepers k**led them all the time.
I'd find them at the sewage treatment plant from time to time and squash 'em. They'd go there to have babies and the ones I always found there were small...and if there was one there were more.

I don't h**e 'em a bit. In the winter when I lived in Socal, mucking in tin and woodpiles, I'd occasionally turn one up...all cold and immobile.
Those ones I'd carry off into the bush and let go.

Funny you mention that. A friend of mine recently moved from New Mexico to Nevada, and one of the things she said she doesn't miss is the rattlesnakes. She started having a big problem last year.

This is the time of year snakes seek mates, so there are either fewer females around their normal hunting grounds, or something is attracting females to your area. Here it's copperheads, and the same phenomena is occurring - normally I get 2 a year, I got three already - all males.

Yup, that’s a biggun. Looks like a shotgun blast ...?

Wow, glad you got him & not the other way around, especially for your dogs. Do your dogs generally stay away from snakes or does their curiosity get them in trouble? Plus a nice interesting change in topics.

12 gauge. It was all I had at hand. Everything else is locked up since the granddaughter is here.

This time, they backed off when they heard the sound and came running when I called them. The bulldog got bit a few weeks ago, so maybe he learned his lesson.
