But the Trump administration's efforts to ease their pain have paid off. The administration gave soybean, sorghum and other farmers $12 billion in assistance in 2018, which the vast majority of our survey participants found useful. The survey was conducted before an additional $16 billion in payments went to farmers this year, both to offset trade losses as well as the effects of too much rain.

Long-term gains

We also found that farmers largely view the trade disruption as short-term pain for long-term gain.

While only 14% think their farm operations will be better off financially a year from now, more than half said they expected something good to ultimately come out of the trade war. And about 44% said they believe the U.S. economy will be stronger in three years. China's 2017 decision to allow imports of U.S. beef and its 2020 national ethanol mandate also give farmers hope for new export opportunities.

In other words, most farmers are prepared to sacrifice income for a while on the belief they'll make up for it down the road. Since agriculture is a highly cyclical industry, this sanguine view is understandable.

In fact, U.S. agricultural exports to China this year rebounded a bit compared with a year ago, thanks to China's recent exemptions of tariffs on U.S. soybeans and pork products...

Enviro dollars would become the new standard not petroleum dollars.
Petroleum of course is still important and will be but by starting now to t***sition to earth friendly sources will pay off in the long run. For your kids and grandkids and great grandkids.

We have chain grocery stores that carry produce from around the area and even say whose farm it came from. When we lived on the ranch, we had some chickens, ducks and geese. We'd hatch some of the chicken and duck eggs and eat the rest. We also had a milk cow, a Jersey, and some dairy goats. We would milk them by hand, so we had a greater appreciation for the milk. I'd shoot a couple of deer in the fall for meat and knew someone who raised cattle and we would buy a side of beef from him. We also had a good sized garden and raised some veggies. Don't have that anymore. Due to my wife's health issues, we bought a house in a small town (under 900 people). The last two years have not been good for gardening, too wet last year and too hot and dry this year. It's just the two of us now so the grocery bill is not too much of a sticker shock.

AOC complained when someone asked her about the price of the Green New Deal....she said the cost doesn't matter. HOW do you think America is going to foot the cost of renovating every building, getting rid of combustible engines, zero gas emissions, create high-wage jobs, (getting rid of cows - lol!) etc.?? Estimates are around $93 Trillion dollars. If you think taxpayers can afford that, then you must believe in the tooth fairy!
