Timeless Truths: "Preaching Only at Two Times"

Zemirah Loc: Sojourner En Route...

This is surely an encouragement to every Christian who seeks the fulfillment of the Great Commission (Mark 16:15) given to us by Jesus Christ:

The 18th century evangelical preacher John Berridge (1716-1793) was called in by the Anglican bishop and reproved for preaching at all hours of the day and on every day of the week.

“My lord,” he replied, “I preach only at two times.”

The bishop pressed him, “And which are they, Mr. Berridge?”

He quickly responded, “In season and out of season, my lord”

(From 2nd Timothy 4:2 "Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage--with great patience and careful instruction.")

Go Ye into All the World
(Public Domain Matthew 28:19)
By James McGranahan, 1886

(Representative Text)

1 Far, far away, in death and darkness dwelling,
Millions of souls forever may be lost;
Who, who will go, salvation’s story telling,
Looking to Jesus, heeding not the cost?

Refrain:
“All pow’r is given unto Me,
All pow’r is given unto Me,
Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel,
And lo, I am with you alway.”

2 See o’er the world wide open doors inviting,
Soldiers of Christ, arise and enter in!
Christians, awake! your forces all uniting,
Send forth the gospel, break the chains of sin. (Refrain)

3 “Why will ye die?” the voice of God is calling;
“Why will you die?” re-echo in His name;
Jesus has died to save from death appalling,
Life and salvation, therefore, go proclaim. (Refrain)

4 God speed the day, when those of every nation
"Glory to God!" triumphantly shall sing;
Ransomed, redeemed, rejoicing in salvation,
Shout Hallelujah, for the Lord is King. (Refrain)

Good morning, Canuckus,

There were many videos of that song being performed, but the larger, impeccably gowned and coiffured choirs lacked the personal appeal of a congregation in which one could easily imagine participating.

Good morning, bahmer,

My Thanks to you for all your excellent Hebrew lessons.

The more in depth of meaning we achieve in His written Word, the deeper our understanding of how we can please God.

An excellent verse, especially in these times! And a beautiful song!

“Shout Hallelujah, for the Lord is King”
