Ain't got no money?

I was employed for several years as a casino security shift supervisor in Nevada -- this position entails an intimate knowledge of the gaming business, and promotion to this position, unlike supervisor spots in other departments, has to be approved by the CEO and Chairman because the responsibility involves having a finger in every pie, looking out for the entire spectrum, from money to status quo to liabilities, of management's interests.

If there's one thing you learn, it's that only an i***t would still be a gambler after seeing and experiencing what one does in that position.

That said, one biproduct of those years is that on the rare occasions I do place a bet, it is in person at a licensed gaming establishment, not through bookies and/or other middlemen.

The last time I gambled was at Harrah's in Joliet, Illinois, where I spent my birthday weekend in 2007. I won over $6,000 playing dollar progressive video poker and another $4,000 and change playing craps. Both were sort of quasi honest because my employment experience in Nevada taught me what to look for in machines and how a professional plays craps.

Before that, my last betting was on the Triple Crown races in 1995, while I still worked in the casino -- I used to play the ponies a bit, and I learned how from a professional handicapper -- and I won on both the Derby and the Belmont betting Thunder Gulch across ($100 to win, $100 to place, $100 to show -- my horse won both of those races) -- though I didn't fare well on the Preakness.

That's my most recent betting history -- as far as how I'll place a bet, it's more about principle than about money, the latter of which, for me, while I'm not rich, is not exactly in short supply.

You open a licensed betting parlor and give odds on the November 3 results, and I'll make a special trip there to place a bet.

Seems odd that, before obtaining two Masters degrees (over several years), it took me only eight weeks to become a “trained k**ler” in Army Basic Training. In just eight more weeks, I became a proficient artillery fire direction expert.

Might be different “sk**l sets”, or maybe, it’s the style of teaching/learning. The amount of time isn’t a factor.

Teachers should teach. Law enforcement should enforce laws. Either endeavor is a full-time job and cannot be performed simultaneously.

I agree, Steve, teachers should teach, police should enforce laws, and armed security for any facility should remain ever vigilant. Managing and teaching a class room full of kids while at the same time remaining alert for threats is to multitask two widely divergent fields of attention.

Following the 1974 Ma'alot Massacre when Palestinian terrorists took over the Netiv Meir Elementary School, k*****g 25 and injuring 68, Israel established a highly effective school security system - they adopted the military concept of "defense in depth". The first line of defense is good police work in tracking known or suspected threats, the second line is armed guards at school entrances, and the third is armed teachers. There is one more layer and that is conducting active shooter drills in the schools - along the line of fire drills.

Since then, there have been two school shootings in Israel which left fewer than 10 dead. In both incidents, teachers k**led the attackers. All other attempts since then never got past the first and second layers.

The Israelis, because they've always been under attack by terrorists and hostile neighbors, realized a long time ago that an important part of survival is learning from experience.

Unfortunately, our very own Democrats flatly refuse to learn from experience -- they always seem to think that just because something hasn't worked the first 863 times, it will work the 864th time.

They also have no semblance of understanding of the relationships between cause and effect, which is why they never take responsibility for the long term damage done by many of their policies.

Bad Bob, what does a meme of a Democrat who just slipped on a banana peel have to do with Radiance's post?

No, I just have my own established betting principles based on professional experience, and as I said, on the rare occasions I do bet, I do so in person.

If I were a fervent poker bettor, for example, I'd play at a casino poker parlor, not on some offshore poker website where I had no direct control of my money.

While I have a lot of respect for both of my fellow conservatives, neither of them might have been in the gaming business and, therefore, their betting preferences might be different from mine.

Just as I understand that your own indubitably sordid experiences might have shaped your worldview to make you a treasonous, America hating Marxist, I don't begrudge you your misguided opinions. That's the beauty of this free country you and your l*****t ilk are trying to drain the liberty out of.

To earn a continuing teaching certificate takes five years of schooling in most states. The police academy In contrast as few as 16 weeks. If there is any need for police in schools wouldn’t it make sense to send a few credentialed teachers to the police academy? They could be deputized and paid a bonus each year. This would insure that security was sufficient in the few schools it is necessary while making sure that nurturing students took precedence over law enforcement.

Not around here is it 16 weeks.

Nope -- Trump's re-e******n is a done deal. I've explained in detail why I don't place bets through indirect venues.

Either you're just acting stupid now by continuing to flog that horse or you really are stupid. I sincerely hope it's the former rather than the latter.

No, I see a probable Democrat who looks like he wasn't watching where he stepped and stepped on a banana peel.

The peel might have slipped off to the right, away from his foot, and been cut off by the edge of the frame.
