Lindajoy,

I worked with so many successful people of all "colors" over the decades, that the current 'racial' hysteria seems like a bad Hollywood sci-fi movie to me.

WHY NOW?

No.. There are varying levels of sin... Which is why some are addressed more frequently or with greater emphasis...

Which is why repentance and atonement are so important...

What scripture would you use to support different levels of sins? I’m far from a scholar of the Bible, but I don’t remember different levels of sins discussed that would also lead to different levels of punishment for the unrepentant unsaved. I have never seen or heard sin discussed in this context!

No actually sin is sin. No biblical difference between murder and theft or telling lies. The only thing that I can think of is that God calls homosexuality an a*********n.
The wages of sin is death, regardless of what the sin is.
The only way out of that is to believe in Jesus! Have a relationship with him and accept his free gift of eternal life.

There are mortal sins and venal sins and there are those who sin repeatedly and those who don't; each is looked at differently by God.

Look through the OT and you'll find that there are varying levels of offering/sacrifice for different sins... Seems obvious that if the offerings differ it must be because the sins differ.... Otherwise there would only be one offering to cover all sins...

There were also varying levels of punishment for t***sgressions... Stoning for sonethings, but exile for others...

Consider: The premeditated murder of a man vs the accidental k*****g of a man...

Neither have I.

As far as I know, the only mortal sin is blaspheming the Holy Spirit.
As for the rest, well, there’s none righteous, no not one. So everyone sins, the difference is that some people are convicted by the aforementioned Holy Spirit and confess it with their mouth and repent. Those are the followers of Jesus Christ. The rest have no such occurrence.
This might be a little off track, but if you don’t understand these things, then maybe you should accept Jesus Christ as your personal savior, and see just how good life can really be!

Those laws were established for a reason...

And they indicate that there are varying levels of sin...

The little flock, having just witnessed 10 miracles, the parting of the Red Sea, the provision of manna, the water from a rock, the quail for meat, still didn’t believe. So God gave them a way to “earn it”.
The law only exposes sin. But we are not under the Law but under Grace. Romans 6:14.

The Bible says the old Mosaic covenant of Law is over and we are now in the covenant of Grace, the Church Age.
The Lord wrote his laws in our middle parts (hearts). Hebrews 8:10.
The Holy Spirit says “Today, if you hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts as when they provoked Me, As in the day of trial in the wilderness. Hebrews 3:7-8.
The word of the oath, which came after the Law, appoints a Son, made perfect forever. Hebrews 7:28.
So what was a sacrifice for sin(s) in the OT doesn’t apply now. Jesus Christ is the sacrifice for all sins of the whole world. Whether you believe it or not, that’s the crucial part, belief.

Well, they were established for the Jewish people.

My point was if there are different levels of sin there would be different levels of punishment for the unsaved or in Hell, to be blunt! Your point about the OT and Jewish Law has nothing to do with our final judgment. There are no verses in the New Testament to support this, to my knowledge, and they would have to be in the NT not the OT, if there were any! However, there are verses that teach that we will have awards according to the life that we have lived. This has nothing to do with our Salvation. It is based on accepting Jesus Christ as our Savior. There are those on this forum that are very knowledgeable in the Bible, my knowledge is pretty basic! 👍👍

Murder, rape and the breaking of any of the ten commandments are mortal sins.

Just to be clear, what scripture are you referring to regarding mortal sin?
