THE HUSBAND AS HEAD OF THE FAMILY.

The Holy Catholic Church teaches, through Scripture and Tradition, that the husband is the head of his family and has God-given authority over his wife and children. This gift of authority does not give a husband any greater dignity than his wife. Both are equal members of the marital covenant, as is reflected by God creating woman from the side of man . This order of authority reflects the divine order between God, Christ and man.

God blessed the marital covenant with this order to maintain peace and harmony in the family, the “domestic church.” Just as Christ is the Head of the Catholic Church, the family of God, so the father is the head of his domestic church, his family, HEAD OF THE FAMILY.

I remember those days, when I was 4-years old, always waiting for father to come home from work. There he was with a piece of candy and I always waited for him coming home. He met me with a hug and kisses saying, "you are my princess. Your Mama and I both love you so much."I was the youngest among 5 children. Three boys and 2 girls. We were all raised Catholics. Every Sunday, the whole family went to church and the adults received the Holy Eucharists.

Unfortunately father died early, when I was still very young. My uncle in the US and his wife had no children of their own. Uncle came to adopt me when I was almost 15 years old. Mother allowed so I could go to college in the US.

And here I am now getting old. Met my sweetheart in college, but he was called to Vietnam, shortly after we got married.

My uncle, like my father and my auntie, his wife loved me very much. They treated me like their own.

So, I want to thank all fathers here at OPP. I am sure you have all the love of your families. And specially your children who must honor they father and mother, the 4th Commandment of God.

May God bless all of you fathers. You are the backbone of our country and our homes. Thanks for all your service.

Fathers' love is always kids' joy.
