Thank you for this info on new innovations, Peewee.
Here is some additional info on the Essenes, the supposed producers of the Dead Sea Scrolls:
https://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/pharisees-sadducees-and-essenesThe Essenes, according to the online Jewish Virtual Library, were a third faction...
They claim "the Essenes, emerged out of and separated themselves from the Sadducees and Pharisees out of disgust with the other two sects."
This sect of the Essenes believed the others were not strict enough in their observance of Jewish rules and prohibitions, and had thus, corrupted both Jerusalem and the Temple.
Accordingly, they moved out of Jerusalem and lived a monastic life in the desert, adopting strict dietary laws and a commitment to celibacy," - rather than maintaining family life, - and that differs from the Scriptural norm of the family unit as the basis of society, and God's admonition to "multiply, and occupy the earth."
According to the Messianic Jewish website (
http://www.setapartpeople.com/), which claims to oppose any teachings, practices and traditions contrary to the Word of God:
"Every person alive is subject to deception. Y’shua said even the very elect would be deceived (Matt 24:24). This was also Y’shua’s very first warning when He was asked about the end of the age. He said: “see to it that no one deceives you” (Matt 24:3-5)."
They state the following about the Essenes: "With our recent study on the Dead Sea Scrolls, we learned the majority of scholars believe that the Essenes were the people who lived at Wadi Qumran. It is believed that they were the owners of the scrolls that were found in the Judean desert."
They continue: "There is also another reason that a lot of people are looking at this group. They are known for the fact that they did not use the lunar calendar. In their scrolls it is clear that they followed a solar calendar. This makes it clear that they did not follow the norm of the Pharisees and Sadducees."
That opens up many questions for me, as I'd never read this about the Essenes, Peewee, as throughout the Scriptures the Jewish people were always said to use the lunar calendar... and based their Holy Days and Feast Days upon the appearance of the new moon.
There appears to be much about this group that is still unknown, or possibly just unknown to me.
Perhaps your own study has far exceeded mine.
There is an acknowledgement close to the end of the Dead Sea Scrolls Bible by one of the translators that quite a few variations have been found between these ancient copies of what should be identical passages from several books of the Tanakh, not just the book of Jeremiah, so at that time, there was not yet just one accepted version, although the deviations were slight, and the spiritual message the same.
