I just want to pop in for a second to say hello, I'm new on this site. I'm not sure I'll last long, being the life long bleeding heart liberal that I am. But thanks for having me.

Welcome, Julia. I think everyone is welcomed here. Not knowing how familiar you are with sites such as this one, I may be out of line in warning you that people here DO speak their minds. We are a mix of conservatives and non-conservatives. I word it that way because there are so very few actual liberals it seems. Progressives seem to dominate the left side of politics these days.
I label myself as one to whom individual freedoms trumps almost every other agenda within the political spectrum, and I divide people into two groups for ease in descriptions: those who love freedom and those who prefer to control others......no one person can possibly be for both. Ergo, expect me to always object to more and more and more control of individuals.
I sincerely hope you enjoy the site and I look forward to some spirited conversations with you!
Welcome to 1PP
Welcome Julia
I'm a firm believer in The Second Amendment. I just have one question for you, I could never get a straight answer to . Why doesn't O'Bama and Eric Holder inforce the laws about guns that are already on the books? They are not being inforced, so what makes you think more laws will work.
Criminals don't obey laws.

Julia-
Welcome aboard. As you have surmised there are some on this site, myself included, that may not subscribe to your Ideology. Let me just reiterate, I fight fair. That will always include Quantitative , Qualitative , Empirical evidence to substantiate my opinion or provide credence to my claim. However, your position is a Moral, ethical or faith based one. That is a cut and dried, Black and white, Clear as glass issue.
I just saw that the FDA has approved the "Morning After Pill" for children who are 15. God Bless America. I enthusiastically , anticipate we will have much to discuss. I am working away from my computer today. I will check back tonight.

Welcome! You are needed here! Most of the people on here are over the top right, wingnuts. You'll see what I mean. Too often that progressives let themselves get beaten down. Hang in there . You do have friends here.

Of course I join you in your belief in the Second Amendment to the Constitution, the right to bear arms. We have a birth right to protect ourselves, and no government can legally negate that right. If a government can negate THAT right, it can also negate all the other rights we have by virtue of birth.
Do our government officials think they have sole power to override the US Constitution? Sure seems that way, huh?
I once heard it said that laws are written solely for those who will obey them. I think there's a world of wisdom in that statement, don't you?

Exactly what laws are not being enforced by President Obama and Holder.
http://www.splcenter.org/get-informed/intelligence-files/groups/imperial-klans-of-america#.UYJ1wKLgN2A"The Obama administration also says Republicans are using bad numbers when they say federal prosecutions are in decline. According to the Justice Department, U.S. attorneys in 2012 charged 11,728 defendants with a gun crime, setting a level of prosecution under federal gun laws that has remained fairly constant over the last four years."
That line is being used as a diversion away from stricter laws. And even if there was some laxity in the past, the recent executive orders are intended to correct that. Please explain how background checks and banning assault weapons are going to infringe on 2nd amendment right? Even Justice Scalia agrees that ALL rights have limitations.

You asked what gun laws are not being enforced. The most famous case in point:
Non-US citizens, unless permanently immigrating into the U.S. or in possession of a hunting license legally issued in the U.S.
Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act.
"Gunwalking", or "letting guns walk", was a tactic of the Arizona Field Office of the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). They ran a series of "gunwalking" sting operations[2][3] between 2006[4] and 2011[2][5] in the Tucson and Phoenix area where the ATF "purposely allowed licensed firearms dealers to sell weapons to illegal straw buyers, hoping to track the guns to Mexican drug cartel leaders."[6] These operations were done under the umbrella of Project Gunrunner, a project intended to stem the flow of firearms into Mexico by interdicting straw purchasers and gun traffickers within the United States.[7]
Guns tracked by the ATF have been found at crime scenes on both sides of the MexicoUnited States border, and the scene where United States Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was k**led. The "gunwalking" operations became public in the aftermath of Terry's murder.[2] Dissenting ATF agents came forward to Congress in response.[16][17] According to Humberto Benítez Treviño, former Mexican Attorney General and chair of the justice committee in the Chamber of Deputies, related firearms have been found at numerous crime scenes in Mexico where at least 150 Mexican civilians were maimed and k**led.[18] Revelations of "gunwalking" led to controversy in both countries, and diplomatic relations were damaged.
