The president has the right to fire any time, cabinet members or high level officials for lack of confidence, in the performance their duties.

full and Radiance, Let's be honest. The only reason Atkinson was fired was because he did his job. He reported the whistleblowers report to Congress. Thats what an Inspector General of Intelligence is supposed to do. Trump wants people in his administration that don't give a rats ass about this country, it's security, or constitution, just their loyalty to him. Nobody is arguing that the POTUS can fire anybody he wants to. That doesn't make it right, just self serving.

Good Lord, what a pitiful attempt to defend a corrupt bureaucrat. Talk about denial and living in darkness. Wow!

The Inspector General is appointed by the president, confirmed by Congress, and reports to DOJ. The DOJ is under the president's office. DOJ reports and a subordinate to the Executive Branch.

The Inspector General directly reports to DOJ, and if something fraudulent is discovered on his audit, the DOJ, conducts the investigation.

The Inspector General is not supposed to directly report to Congress. That is a violation of his protocol.

The president could fire anytime, if the appointed official is not in compliance with policies.
