China appointed to UN Human Rights Council panel
i24NEWS ~ April 05, 2020
China was appointed to a panel on the United Nations Human Rights Council Wednesday, where it will help select the next world monitors on freedom of speech, enforced disappearances, and arbitrary detention, according to UN Watch.

Hillel Neuer, Executive director of UN Watch, spoke out against the decision saying, “It’s absurd and immoral for the UN to allow China’s oppressive government a key role in selecting officials who shape international human rights standards and report on violations worldwide."

“Allowing China’s oppressive and inhumane regime to choose the world investigators on freedom of speech, arbitrary detention and enforced disappearances is like making a pyromaniac into the town fire chief."

According to the UN Watch, China will have a say in selecting at least 17 UN human rights "mandate-holders" over the next year. China will also assist in screening candidates for UN human rights positions.

Jiang Duan, minister at the Chinese Mission in Geneva, was appointed to the Consultative Group at the UN Human Rights Council, where he will be the representative of the Asia-Pacific states.

The Beijing government has been widely criticized for its violations of human rights, and recently there has been skepticism surrounding China's reported c****av***s cases and deaths.

Since the US withdrew from the council, an empty seat needed to be filled. When the US fails to lead, or at least participate, someone else will fill the vacuum. We never learn do we; we abandoned Afghanistan after the USSR left and here come the Taliban. We left Iraq when Sadaam was gone, and here comes ISIS. Now, China will be monitoring human rights violations around the world and telling countries how the cow ate the cabbage....................and the US will be left to fume.

I think it's a terrible idea... I***tic really...

America was doing a much better job...

Remember all those times they stopped that could try from starting wars in the Middle East? <sarcasm>

But seriously... The UN is a joke and should be disbanded...

Until then it will continue to be used to further the political aims of various powers...

Sorry you're not one of them anymore...
