Roamin' Catholic Loc: luxurious exile

Aside from the impact that the c****av***s is having on almost everyone regardless of politics, philosophy or beliefs, there is something else happening too. Something to which liberals and conservatives alike can relate.

Lent. Really- check this out and see if it resonates with you.

Many people who are not familiar with Christianity and its Jewish heritage consider the religion to be oppressive, backward and filled with myth and superstition. They might be surprised at the degree of social justice that is taught.

The prophet Isaiah, who lived from the eighth into the seventh century BC, relayed messages purportedly from God. The preponderance of evidence leads me to believe this is true.

During the season of Lent, which is currently in progress, the 40 days plus Sundays leading up to Easter which is the greatest Christian holiday, many Christians follow the practice of fasting- giving up something. This is an act of mortification- the trial separation of your mind from your body to strengthen your spirit. Here is the Lord's comment on fasting- hear the Word of God;

"You seek me out as if you were a nation eager to know my ways, as if you were a nation that does what is right and has not forsaken the commands of its God. 'Why have we fasted' you say, 'and you have not seen it? Why have we humbled ourselves and you have not noticed?"

"Yet on the day of your fasting you do as you please- exploiting your workers and your fasting ends in quarreling and strife, striking each other with wicked fists. You cannot fast as you do today and expect your voice to be heard on high."

"Is this the kind of fast I have chosen, only a day for you to humble yourselves? Is it only for bowing your head like a reed and lying in sackcloth and ash? Is that what you call a fast, a day acceptable to the Lord?"

Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen; to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter? When you see the naked to clothe them, and to not turn away from your own flesh and blood?"

"Then your light will break forth like the dawn and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you and the Glory of the Lord will be your rear guard."

"Then you will call and the Lord will answer; you will cry for help and He will say, "Here I Am."
