The management for the apartment complex for Senior Citizens where I live just went to each apartment and left 2 rolls of toilet paper outside the door.

They just raised my rent by $43.00 a month so I guess they can afford it!

Good one.

A year ago my apartment owner sold the building. The day a new lease was due to be signed, she came around and handed me a new lease with a 25% increase. To make a long story short, I now have my own condo, half a block away, two bedrooms instead of one and a nice sun room (perfect for morning breakfast), a two story building and 1/4 of all basement space is mine for storage (I needed it), my own washer and dryer, and all costs, (mortgage insurance, taxes, assessment and utilities) is less then I was paying for rent several years ago. And I can do what I want to the place without landlord consent.

I made lots of poor decisions, mainly spending too much money on booze, which I still do.
That's why I'm renting. Let this be a lesson to you younger people. My situation is entirely my fault, can't blame anyone else. President Trump never drank booze or used drugs and and look at how good his life has been.

Unfortunately if it's made too easy to buy people have a far higher likelihood of not taking their "rent" seriously.
Too often the person with a renter mentality doesn't make the switch to what it means to own the house.

That said, the housing and rental market has gone very bad for renters because so many foreclosed houses in 2007/2008 were bought up super cheap and used for rental properties. I know one person who pulled $2.5 million after a hefty tax penalty out of the stock market, and I helped her put a dozen well priced homes together for rentals until their prices went back up. She has doubled and tripled her investment on these homes.

My apartment gets a few dozen people in this area trying to get it when it's available, and the rental market is so bad in Sacramento price wise that people from Sacramento come up to look at it. I know I can get over $1300 a month for it but we are satisfied with $1050, we want someone here that doesn't feel like they are being gouged because of a bad rental market.
