Camus' Wise Understanding in "The Plague"

I think it's time for me to find my old copy of Camus' "The Plague" and read again.

From Alain de Botton's opinion piece, link attached below.

The doctor works tirelessly to lessen the suffering of those around him. But he is no hero. “This whole thing is not about heroism,” Dr. Rieux says. “It may seem a ridiculous idea, but the only way to fight the plague is with decency.” Another character asks what decency is. “Doing my job,” the doctor replies.

I sure as hell wouldn't want to live in San Francisco right now.

You've got America's largest population of Chinese and the largest population of homos/q***rs and homeless people.

Literally a city of filth, disease and total indecency.

I see a flaming asteroid headed that way.

...and a k**ler fault.

Frisco scares me when I'm there. The place is a time bomb.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that San Andreas.

Seriously Paul...I'm not tripping that way.

I go to the Warfield once in a while for concerts and Frisco scares me. It's a matter of physics.

I had a friend from Germany who told me Europe is full of ruined places where people never should have built.

Your fears are, like many, unfounded. I would welcome you to SF and an aspect that is both safe and beautiful. (And please try avoid saying “Frisco.” It isn’t a phrase locals use.)

New York sits very close to the Ramapo Fault, a relatively inactive, though major tectonic fault. It has been known to slip and shake. It also passes right under the Indian Point Nuclear Powerplant. If that fault goes, it’ll make the San Andreas look like nothing.

Since Frisco is in Texas! (Not far from Dallas.) You must be afraid of Texans. Dunno why.

Hardly. I WAS a Texan for 13 years!
1981 - 1994 in Dallas.
I have many good friends that are Texans, both natives and t***splants.

But I have no intention of living there again unless Ann Richards rises from the dead.
(True Texans will understand what I am talking about).

You said you had a problem with folks in Frisco (Frisco is in Texas), but I think you meant San Francisco (which is in California) Right?

Politically correct speech is not my thing. My dad was a trucker and Frisco has been a trucker word since before people decided to be "offended" by it.

Physics is what it is. Don't be on Market Street or Fisherman's Wharf during the big one is all I can say. I know what they did after the shaker in 1904.
