Why does God let bad things happen to good people? Because, in Christ, there are no "bad things": we are to take joy in all things

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. ... Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances (IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES); for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. Romans 12:15. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.
It is not to be aloof with those of losses, failures, and afflictions, with some with some Biblical panacea to take joy in all circumstances. Horrible to say after the death of a loved one, "He or she is with the Lord." Jesus thinks better of us than that and showed it. Look at the child of the Centurion or Lazarus. Be human, grieve and be angry, for that is the way of the lord in his fellowship. Yet also know God is good to his promise of Salvation. It is not a balance but a surrender to his mercy and love.
