Let's see if this sounds familiar a dozen bad guys forge The ID's of one of our airline's and bordered planes and flew them in 9/11 so now every American has to have a special ID to travel. This is the start of a national ID and the start of being asked for our ID everywhere we go.
Kind of like 10% of the population break the law useing guns ,so now many think the answer is take the guns of the 90% of law abiding gun owners!
Seems to me we should take the guns from the bad guys and leave the rest of us alone.
The thing that has always pissed me off is we at home wave the f**g and scream our support of our troops fighting to keep our freedom ,at the very same time we let the government scare us and slowly take our freedom,

Did we not always need passports to board airplanes?

In the US we never needed a passport to fly within the Country now we will need it to ride a bus or train .
Most of my post was about how we punish the majority for the crimes of the criminal minority

Perhaps if we required all criminals to wear black hats we could spot them more easily among the majority.

I've flown in the past without ever needing a passport and I still do not have a passport.

In 2001 the Shoe Bomber failed in his attempt to blow us up on an American Airlines flight from Paris. Now, almost 20 years later, everybody must remove their shoes at security check. In 2009 the Underwear Bomber failed to detonate his bomb stuffed in his undergarments. Why do we not require underwear checks at security screening? Do we really need to take our shoes off before we board a plane?

Agree! The new id, as it is being called, is a form of a national id. But, we are asked for an id everywhere already. As Americans, we already must show ids - when stopped by police, for some credit card purchases, doctors appointments; credit card, college & insurance applications; to obtain drivers license or passport; donating blood; certain prescription drugs; out of state debit card purchases; boarding an airplane. Lastly, the one time presenting an id has caused a lot of controversy is to v**e! (In some states requiring an id to v**e is considered disenfranchisement.) I’m sure there are other instances, but the point is that we citizens of the USA are required to prove who we are nearly every day!

Who took lonewolf and replaced him with you? I agree with you. We lost rights starting on 9-11. We gave up liberties for security.
