You seem to have missed the part where Pennylynn was attacking Lincoln, a Republican. Was she attacking a fellow conservative or would Lincoln be considered a progressive of the day? Yes, the Democratic party was guilty of all you say but it was founded by Southern Conservatives and it was over time that the Republican and Democratic party traded ideological places. Haven't you ever heard of Blue Dog democrats? Well, they were the remainder of Southern Conservatives, the majority of whom, have now either died or migrated to the Republican party.

No, they did not "ride around" pounding on doors. However, v**e numbers were printed in news articles and a number can be extrapolated from census records and total v**es cast. One can also get a "feel" of the pulse of Americans based on archived letters sent to the White House.
Do any "Progressive" ever think outside the box or do they simply adopt what they are told? Personally, I can think of dozens of ways to figure out problems....I do not need to use social media to tell me what to think and a telephone is only useful to stay in touch with friends/family when away from home.
So speaking of stupid comments, which is too harsh, I will just say your comments must be from the first thought that enters your head, certainly they could not be after giving consideration to possibilities.

Ok, so could Lincoln be thought of as a progressive or a conservative? What did his actions suggest? Did he believe in state's rights as conservatives to this day believe in? Did he believe in the right to personal property even if that property was a fellow human being? What did his forcing through the 13th amendment suggest? Was that a progressive action or a conservative action of trying to maintain the status quo?
I have no problem accepting the actions of those who could be thought to be the liberal progressives of the day but I'm not going to accept the actions of the regressive Conservatives who were the principal s***eholders and were later responsible for the KKK and the spread of Jim Crow laws--laws that unfortunately weren't stamped out until the 60's by liberal progressives, not you regressive conservatives who worked to deny b****s their rights not grant them to them!
