On Monday's episode of "Pseudo-Intellectual," Lauren Chen and Liam Donovan talked about a Catholic hospital in California which is being sued for refusing to perform a hysterectomy on a t*********r man as part of a g****r reassignment process.

The hospital, Mercy San Juan Medical Center, cancelled Evan Minton's surgery two days before the procedure was scheduled after discovering that he is t*********r.

The hospital claimed the reason for cancelling had nothing to do with Minton's status as t*********r, but because they "do not perform sterilizing procedures" based on "the Catholic Church's theological and moral teachings."

"Catholic hospitals do not perform sterilizing procedures such as hysterectomies for any patient regardless of their g****r identity, unless there is a serious threat to the life or health of the patient," read a statement released by hospital management. "Courts have repeatedly recognized the right of faith-based hospitals not to provide services based on their religious principles....In this case, Mr. Minton was able to quickly receive the sought-after procedure at another nearby Dignity Health hospital that is not Catholic-affiliated."

I didn’t read the Blaze article, but your last sentence is confusing to me. Dignity Health was founded by Catholic nuns and is in fact now owned by a Catholic healthcare organization. So a non-Catholic affiliated Dignity hospital sounds like an oxymoron.

And also interesting - “Dignity” is the name of a Catholic organization for L***Q folks who choose to remain in their faith.

I do not know the in's and out's of the Catholic Church and it's relations with health care entities. I THINK that a hospital once affiliated with the Church can be divested to another group, which then can operate under different rules.
