Genesis chapter 37

Forward

Jacob has twelve sons and one daughter.Ten of his sons are men. Joseph is seventeen. That’s why when Joseph’s brothers meet him in Egypt after thirteen years they didn’t recognize him. Plus he spoke through an interpreter/

Verse 1 - 11

Jacob is back dwelling in a tent in the land of Canaan. One day the land will belong to his children. God is in control. Let’s see how He does it. Joseph is in his late teens and snitches on his brothers. Joseph is Jacob’s favorite but his brothers hate him. Then Joseph has a dream that his brothers bow to him. When Joseph tells his brothers, they hate him more. Then Joseph has a dream of the sun, moon, and stars bowing to him. His brothers hate him more, but Jacob can see the hand of God.

Verse 12 - 14

Joseph’s brothers go to Shechem. Jacob sent Joseph to check up on them. Joseph snitched on his brothers the last time. His brothers are sick of this.

Verse 15 - 17

Joseph’s brothers are not in Shechem. A man asks Joseph what is he looking for. Joseph says his brothers. The man says Dothan. A man sees Joseph is looking for something, and can answer all Joseph’s questions. God is in control.

Verse 18 - 22

When Joseph’s brothers see him coming, they plan to kill him and lie to their father about what happened. Reuben talks them out of killing Joseph His plan is to take Joseph back home.

Verse 23 - 28

Joseph is stripped of his robe and placed in a pit. Judah suggest selling Joseph to slave traders. Joseph will be sold to Egyptians. God is in control. This will save countless lives.

Verse 29 - 36

Reuben returns and doesn’t know what to do. They trick their father into believing Joseph has been killed by a wild animal. This breaks Jacob’s heart and his sons don’t care. The slave traders sell Joseph to the Egyptians.
