In my brother-in-law's car... On the highway... Heading to my wife's aunt's home for the New Year...

Once a year we all drop what we're doing and come together... Cousins and siblings and grandchildren and greatgrandma too...

We cook and drink and light fireworks and play mahjong...

Red envelopes full of money are given to the children... The ladies compare shoes, coats, and bags... We men tend to stick together... Cold beer and 60% glasses of baijiu are freely shared...

We catch up on the new and rehash the old...

Tonight a group of us will go to the crossroads and burn paper money in a circle of alcohol for the dead... A second smaller circle will be burned as well, for any lost spirits that might be lurking...

At midnight we will eat dumplings and toast the New Year... Several coins will be hidden in the dumplings... Finding one is a sign of fortune in the coming year...

My wife's uncle will set off a string of fire c*****rs outside the doorway... To frighten off the Nian (a monster that comes on the new year) and chase away any bad luck...

For the next week we will visit with family and friends... Relaxing and being grateful for all that we have received and all that we have to look forward to...

Aye... It's a good time to be alive...

God bless....

F**e money....

Chinese write the names of their deceased on it... Then burn it so that it is sent to heaven for their relatives...

It's actually a nice way to commemorate those who have passed...

I'll try to take pictures tonight... Not sure if it's polite or not...

Good things coming for you, then. Or challenges, never quite figured how that works. I was born in the year of the rabbit.

The evening news over here reported that the Chineese government is closing down cities and restricting travel between them with the military enforcing the imposed restrictions. The v***s is in many countries even now. You might be celebrating New Years for a long time. Stay safe and well.

I expect you're right. I was concerned for Kyle and his family living in China and interested in knowing if the restrictions were in force as reported here.
